I do, when I hover my mouse over the image. YMMV, depending on your client.

Odd. I’m on Firefox.

When I mouseover I just get a message to expand the image. Like this:

Upon expanding the image, I cannot get alt-text to appear.

EDIT: Here’s what I get when I use dev tools to inspect the element:

Notice the alt=“”

That looks like its likely the case. Blahaj is a nice instance, but it’s definitely behind the curve on current version status.

My instance is .ml and I used jerboa, which has an alt-text field below the image uploader.

Zagorath ,

Annoyingly, while Jerboa has a field to add alt text to the submission when you create it, I can’t find a way to get it to show me the alt text on a submission that has already been created.

How did the alt text even get in there? I don’t find anything when I do exiftool -a -u blah.webp or magick identify -verbose blah.webp

Edit to add: oic: The “Alt Text” field doesn’t appear in the post form until after I upload the image.

vithigar ,

A temporary one that you’re expected to remove as soon as you’ve created the admin user(s) you need, but yes. It should only be there during initial setup and ideally removed before the server is ever exposed to the internet.

iamjackflack ,

Yes because having a user remember to do something is a great line of defense, better than encrypting it from the get go. It should just be encrypted in the file.

gsfraley ,

I think that’s the way both Splunk and JFrog work – you generate or enter a password into the key field in a YAML file somewhere, start the service, and next time you come back the field’s been encrypted.

Flax_vert OP ,

The step tells you to remove it after at least

BradleyUffner ,

The “if you no longer need it” part doesn’t really suggest that you are expected to do it as part of normal operation.

A two panel meme with Candace and her mom from the cartoon Phineas and Ferb. They are alone in the car with Candace’s mom driving.

In the top panel sits Candace in the passenger seat, smiling and gesturing with her hands to show excitement and she’s speaking.

Text at the bottom of this panel says “they are so nice to put alt-text under their memes just for people like me to get the joke.”

In the bottom panel the same scene but this time her hands are at rest together while Candace’s mom looks at her and is speaking.

Text at the bottom of this panel says “I worry about you sometimes Candace.”

weeeeum , to asklemmy in Why does it feel as though only the US and China (and maybe some other Asian countries) have an economic future?

An economic crash is just as necessary as economic booms. Trying to pump the economy with all means possible is unsustainable. Squeezing the maximum amount of productivity from every worker will cause a population crisis, forcing everyone into cities will cause a population crisis, dirt poor wages and sky high rent will cause a population crisis.

Eventually the economy crashes but it gives the country a bit of breathing room. They can finally enact some changes and stimulus to rejuvenate it.

We will still need to wait and see the effects of advanced ai however.

jrbaconcheese , to piracy in Is there a way to prioritize specific trackers in qBit?

Tag based on tracker

Filter to that tag

Select all

Set speed limits for that group

Repeat

There are various automatic softwares that can manage this (like qbitmanage) but they are often a royal pain to setup.

So maybe religion here just gives people hope. Can’t blame this on em 100%

But how else are the suits going to lick Microsoft’s boots?

Iceblade02 , to android in eSim or Physical Sim?

I greatly prefer physical sim, just because I can control it. If I want it out of my phone, it’s out, if I want to switch phones, I switch. Easy peasy. I really don’t see any advantage to an eSim apart from maybe faster delivery.

essell ,

The other advantage is getting a second sim in a phone which otherwise can’t have one, only times I’ve used them.

rainynight65 ,

You can disable and even delete an eSIM-profile. Then it’s just a dead chip. If your provider is halfway decent, you can recover a deleted eSIM-profile as well.

When I traveled last year, having eSIM-capability in my phone was extremely convenient. I picked two providers, one as the primary and one as a backup in case there were problems with the first one. No juggling with the SIM-tray and different nano SIMs.

Iceblade02 ,

Hmm, that’s actually a decent point. I’ve two regular sim slots, so it isn’t really an issue for me.

Wanna bet it’s not “AI” ?

Madison420 ,

Learning machines are ai as well, it’s not really what we picture when we think ai but it is none the less.

captain_aggravated ,
@captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s probably more “AI” than the LLMs we’ve been plagued with. This sounds more like an application of machine learning, which is a hell of a lot more promising.

reddithalation ,

AI and machine learning are very similar (if not identical) things, just one has been turned into a marketing hype word a whole lot more than the other.

captain_aggravated ,
@captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works avatar

Machine learning is one of the many things that is referred to by “AI”, yes.

My thought is the term “AI” has been overused to uselessness, from the nested if statements that decide how video game enemies move to various kinds of machine learning to large language models.

So I’m personally going to avoid the term.

TonyOstrich ,

This seems exactly like what I would have referred to as AI before the pandemic. Specifically Deep Learning image processing. In terms of something you can buy off the shelf this is theoretically something the Cognex Vidi Red Tool could be used for. My experience with it is in packaging, but the base concept is the same.

Training a model requires loading images into the software and having a human mark them before having a very powerful CUDA GPU process all of that. Once the model has been trained it can usually be run on a fairly modest PC in comparison.
