a_Ha OP , to worldnews in US warns China not to supply weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine

A heartbreaking post made by a true war victim was the first post here until it was deleted because …well, because of his dire situation. See, he let his heart speak too much and this … against a repugnant troll.
He then said : “Please forgive my speech…” yet he was banned for a month from WorldNews.

Moderation work is certainly challenging and yet … i would have hoped for a little more compassion for his situation, yes.

Thank you for your concern.

leaving for 5-10% anti-hatred people

Does someone being from the USA or Europe automatically make them anti-Russia? Does someone not being from USA or Europe automatically make them pro-Russia?

Isn’t assuming either of these things prejudiced (and dare I say perhaps even racist) against both Americans and Europeans?

cyclohexane ,

It’s not 100%, but yes, the countries that colonized the entire world and created the idea of race to begin with are very much the racist ones. How is that surprising?

southerntofu , to reddit in The amount of Russophobia and anti Russian censorship ongoing currently on Reddit is astounding.

Yes there is a lot of russophobia and sinophobia on the part of conservative elements of society (remnants of anti-bolshevik propaganda), but there is also legitimate concerns against imperialist behavior on all sides. A lot of people you see criticizing Putin for invading territories are the same people you saw criticizing France invading Mali or USA invading Iraq/Afghanistan. A lot of the people here in France concerned with russian invasion of Ukraine are the same people who were very much against France joining NATO.

Not all of us are media-driven puppet who have to choose a side between equally-evil sides. I personally side with the people/communities who struggle against imperialism, whether it’s zapatistas in Chiapas, various communities in Rojava, popular movements in Hong Kong, independentists in various french colonies (Guadeloupe, Kanaky, Bretagne), or the people of Ukraine who are facing military invasion at the hand of their former colonizer.

Of course we need to keep a critical look at western propaganda in this matter, and how separatists in certain parts of Ukraine are treated, but that does not mean we should support another colonial empire in this geopolitical game of sociopaths, and it certainly doesn’t mean that people disgusted by military invasion saying “fuck putin” on internet forums are puppets of NATO interests.

Though it’s fair to point out that the global empathy toward ukrainian people is both media-manufactured and based on ethnocentric principles of “white people are affected” and “it’s a European country being invaded, not some African/Asian country”. But in order to deconstruct these racist narratives and revive the internationalist movement, it’s not a good start to support a dictatorial regime who’s rebuilding the former Russian empire, is increasingly reinforcing the cis-heteropatriarchal dogma hand-in-hand with the orthodox fundamentalists, and has zero insightful criticism in regards to its own history of genocide and political repression (against muslim populations of the USSR, against anarchists in Russia/Ukraine, etc).

nachtigall , to reddit in The amount of Russophobia and anti Russian censorship ongoing currently on Reddit is astounding.

What kind of russophobia do you observe? Almost every post that makes it to r/all (which is pretty much the only thing I visit) has a top comment that underlines this is about Putin and not the Russian people.

TheAnonymouseJoker OP ,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

It is not about Putin. It is about Russia, and the only reason you see “f*** Putin” instead of “f*** Russia” (like "“f*** China”) is because Russians are Caucasian like and white skinned, and not yellow/brown/black skinned. It is English Fascism at play.

Why do you think you do not see anything talking about the Aegis missile system of 30 NATO countries surrounding Russia at the moment? Why do the 2-5% people having arguments that favour Russia get silenced or called Russian bot?

I don’t even know what to say about this. You have an incredibly hateful and racist worldview.

Why do you think you do not see anything talking about the Aegis missile system of 30 NATO countries surrounding Russia at the moment?

I am pretty sure that is because of the ongoing Russian attack on Ukraine. All of this proves the necessity for protection. The invasion delivered the best possible justification for NATO’s existence.

Why do the 2-5% people having arguments that favour Russia get silenced or called Russian bot?

Same as above. There is no justificaton for war.

gun ,
@gun@lemmy.ml avatar

“It’s not about Putin, it’s about Russia” is a true statement. History is not decided by great men. History is decided by the class struggle and material conditions. And right now, Russia is in a popular front just like China was in WW2. Why? Because the west wants to open up Russia’s economy to foreign interests. They want to privatize Russia’s state oil and gas firms and expropriate the profits. The same thing they have done for the resources of countries all over the world. Proof? You can see it in public. Leaders and pundits in NATO are already floating around the idea of regime change in Russia. They are going to try to start a coup and put in a US friendly leader in Russia.

@sexy_peach since you were asking too

david ,

This already happened. The oligarchs own the means of production, and spend their profits in the West to live lives of luxury. Russia hasn’t been communist for decades, and putin’s friends are the capitalist owners extracting the results of the work of the people for their own private benefit. Where have you been?

ree , to piracy in Is there a piracy solution as boomer friendly as Stremio?

I don’t know stremio but jellyfin (and Plex and emby) are interresting becquse they allow you to serve content outside of your local network.

A solution is that you manage the server and jellyfin and your friends/family connect to it. It only works if you have a decent upload or if you rent a server/vps

beansniffer OP ,
@beansniffer@lemmy.ml avatar

Stremio is essentially a glorified torrent client with a nice UI. It runs locally on a device connected to the tv you want to stream to. It behind the scenes searches trackers and downloads from torrents of the content someone wants to watch in a netflix like UI. Someone that wasn’t technology literate wouldn’t know they were pirating content from torrents if you didn’t tell them.

A solution is that you manage the server and jellyfin and your friends/family connect to it.

While a self hosted solution like this would be nice, I would get messages everyday from friends and family frequently asking, “Can you add this movie to the server? Can you add this TV show to the server?” and they would eventually stop asking me and just pay for a streaming service if I forgot to fulfill every request. I would like to avoid having to manually add content to the server if my friends and family can just choose the content their wanting to watch themselves.

UnreliantGiant ,

I haven’t tried it personally, but for content requests you can host Ombi. People can then request content through Ombi, which then instructs your *arr stack to get the content. It would basically be fully automated

011011 , to linux in How do I introduce Linux to my mom?

People need to experience something before they can ascertain if it is a viable option. Install Ubuntu or Linux Mint on a secondary device, let her see how familiar it is to her.

Then you can explain some of the other advantages of using Linux.

kakapo ,
@kakapo@sopuli.xyz avatar

Seconding this! I’ve had the best success by using Linux to revive people’s old laptops that just couldn’t run other modern OSes fast enough, and if they’ve been impressed enough, they’ve ended up installing it on their other devices. Even if not (say, if it didn’t support some applications required for work, for example), they’ve usually at least kept it on said laptop.

Not really. GPL is a left wing license. It literally enforces cooperation, and collaboration, which’re communal values, rather than individualism.
