exterstellar , to nostupidquestions in Noodles: is a tamale a noodle?

Technically, a tamale is a calzone according to the cube rule.

bizzle ,
@bizzle@lemmy.world avatar

I understand the cube rule, I just don’t think I can really subscribe to it. Calling a bowl of lucky charms nachos is inaccurate, it’s clearly a soup.

glomag ,

Exactly, cube rule is inconsistent and needlessly complicated. Both are salads

j4k3 ,
@j4k3@lemmy.world avatar

Does this mean I can get thin crust tamales in New York, and grease death tamales in Chicago

kadu , to nostupidquestions in What does the term "Troll" or "Trolling" actually mean on social media sites like Reddit and Lemmy?
@kadu@lemmy.world avatar

A troll is someone not using the platform in good faith, but instead trying to fish some type of negative reaction or result.

On a social media platform like Lemmy, a troll could be someone creating fights, baiting people with insults or fabrications, spreading misinformation purposely, adding links to content that might dangerous or illegal, and so on.

In short, a troll is someone engaging with others with the goal of ruining their experience. In a videogame it could be a team member losing on purpose to annoy others, for example.

PreciousDeclaration OP ,
@PreciousDeclaration@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation.

wreel ,
@wreel@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

A little Internet history: the etymology of “troll” in the Internet sense comes from the fishing term “trolling” which is where one moves around the fishing area with bait waiting for fish to hit (or bite). In the old bulletin board days a normal response before engaging with an obviously inflammatory/bad faith post was to start “ok, I’ll bite … [Counter Argument]”

PreciousDeclaration OP ,
@PreciousDeclaration@lemmy.world avatar

That’s really interesting. Thanks for telling me that.

what is ravioli? And, is ravioli a dumpling?

macarthur_park ,

David Chang argues that ravioli are dumplings on .

I’m inclined to agree in that dumplings and ravioli are the same general idea implemented by different culinary traditions.

Sleeping with a teddy bear

I should probably get one seeing how I often end up just hugging the blanket when I sleep.

OPs question suggests there was at least some illusion !

dustojnikhummer , to nostupidquestions in Why does it feel like we're at a point where every social media + other digital media are making shitty decisions and falling apart?

Because most services we are using aren’t sustainable. They all bleed money.

gpl ,

That’s by design, isn’t it? Dominate the market while operating at a loss then monetize once you have attained monopoly. Like Uber’s strategy. This is an awful way of conducting a business IMHO, it falsifies the economy. I honestly believe they should put severe regulations on this.

dragontamer ,

Ish.

It is a strategy that works when interest rates are 0%, and the 2008 recession was so bad that the IS Fed kept interest rates low until 2021.

Redo the math at 5% interest rates today and 13 years of $1 Billion investment needs to make $1.8 billion just to break even. Money losing strategies are nerfed in this new meta.

PriorProject , to selfhosted in Self hosting lemmy: does it support subpath URLs?

I don’t know if lemmy supports sub-paths, I’ve never seen a lemmy hosted at one though. If it doesn’t nginx definitely supports vhosts. So a single server/vm/container can definitely respond both at my.host.com and lemmy.host.com with appropriate content.

codus ,
@codus@leby.dev avatar

+1 to using a subdomain. You’ll probably have a much better time even if you get a path working.

Skelectus , to nostupidquestions in Is there a preferred Lenny iPad app?

There’s Mlem, but I think it’s only for iphone.

There’s also Memmy, but I think it might also be iOS only.

dan980 ,

On the iPad, it’s way better than Mlem. It’s optimized for the larger resolution.

For me it’s because all these companies hate Linux for some reason. I have Amazon prime, Hulu, HBO max, and Apple TV, but they would only show sd if I’m on Linux.

3laws ,

That is a user agent thing.

CoderKat ,
@CoderKat@kbin.social avatar

AFAIK, it's an HDCP thing (DRM), not user agent.

Really? Fuck em. It was easy to just change the user agent some while ago. So if I try it in 4k monitor, it won’t work‽

zekiz ,

yes. Fuck DRM

Yo, I already have Plex set up. I can add Pokémon and invite you if you want as long as you don’t need 99.9% uptime, I’m just some dude :)

"I'm just some dude"

I relate to this so hard.

RufusFirefly , to nostupidquestions in I personally dont but why do you think ppl care so much about being downvoted on internet chat forums?
@RufusFirefly@lemmy.world avatar

Probably because they tie it to their own personal self-image or self-worth. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, downvotes are virtual and don’t mean a thing in the real world.

UnicornKitty ,
@UnicornKitty@lemmy.world avatar

But people give it value, therefore it does have meaning in the real world. The act generates a feeling in someone, and it says “I don’t like what you just said.” People want to be liked.

where_am_i , to selfhosted in Pokemon is driving me to want a Plex Server.

find a paid plexshare. Cheaper than Netflix, has everything, no weekends wasted on being a devops

There are also free ones, BUT they’re a lot harder to get into, and a lot of times don’t have as much content or aren’t managed as well. They do exist if you’re patient though, I managed to get into a pretty good one a while back.

giacomo , to sysadmin in Cannot reach one specific IPv6 from one specific network
@giacomo@lemmy.world avatar

How far does a traceroute get you? That could help isolate where the issue may be.

TwinTurbo OP ,

I’ve looked at one, but all that I can tell is I stop reaching things somewhere between my ISP and the datacenter the server is in.

giacomo ,
@giacomo@lemmy.world avatar

I kinda think it may be on the isp then, maybe a v6 routing issue? You could work around with an ipv4 tunnel, then route ipv6 through it. If that’s possible, I’ve never done it haha.

TwinTurbo OP ,

Yeah, ISP-related issue is all I can think of. I can connect to the server over v4 no problem, but the broken v6 connectivity to this particular endpoint is strange and nothing I’ve seen before…

giacomo ,
@giacomo@lemmy.world avatar

I bet they get less reports on ipv6 issues than with ipv4. I have definitely seen carriers have ipv4 routing issues in enterprise networking.

rs5th , to selfhosted in Cannot reach one specific IPv6 from one specific network
@rs5th@lemmy.scottlabs.io avatar

Couple questions:

  • What’s your ISP at home?
  • What’s the ISP of the remote IPv6 server?
  • Are the other networks you’ve tried from the same or different?

I’d start with traceroute and see how far your IPv6 traffic gets before it fails. It could very well be some peering or routing issue between some of the ISPs in between you and wherever that IPv6 address lives. If this ends up identifying where the traffic dies, a lot of the tier 1 ISPs have BGP looking glass servers so you can get an idea of what they know about that subnet.

TwinTurbo OP ,

I’ve tried from networks outside my home and I can access the server from there. Looking at a traceroute, I stop getting anything somewhere between my ISP and the datacenter the server is in.
