Mine was a bit patchy at first but now seems to be fine. I came to 7a from an ole’ samsung s9, which was v reliable but in a different position (back) so it took some getting used to.
I’m using my thumb, because using a finger would mean going two-handed (prefer having it on the back tbh). I’ve only scanned one position, and I do find it’s finicky in terms of needing to be in a certain position; I also find I need to press down more firmly than I expect, and it pretty much doesn’t work if my thumb is damp or wet.
Maybe what @WhoRoger suggested will fix it, pls update the post if it does!
I started using Ubuntu at work with version 18.00. It worked without a hitch. Then, it updated to 20.00, and printing broke. I tried multiple “solutions” and none of them worked for my case. For literal years, I had to go to the front desk and print my shit there on the Mac which always printed without issue. Thankfully, in my case I don’t print that much so it wasn’t a huge problem, but I know for some that would be a complete deal breaker.
Cue version 22.00, and printing works again, albeit not always. My jobs get canceled periodically for no reason I can ascertain.
I had similar issues back in the mid-00s with a laptop I was trying to run Ubuntu 6.00 on. It mostly worked, but the webcam and trackpad were a lost cause to someone of my moderate abilities.
It’s shit like this that hold Linux back. I’ve been running some form of Windows since 95, and I’ve never had unsolvable hardware problems with it.
I used names of fictional robots, androids and self-aware computers (though I avoided HAL for obvious reasons) for a long time. These days my wife and I usually go with an indirect reference to the function or hardware - Ex. a device named Anathema, or a Raspberry Pi server named Marie (as in Marie Callendar, a former local pie/restaurant chain). I had an expendable frankenputer for tinkering that I called RedShirt.
Currently trying to come up with a name other than Chris for the PineTab 2.
Edit to add: Places I’ve worked have used Roman emperors, drink brands, Simpsons characters, and of course basics like “IIS1” “MAIL4” “QA-3” and so on. Some would add numbers to the names sequentially, others would use the last octet of the IP address.
There’s no “final fantasy universe”. Every numbered entry (or its remake) is a good entry point. It’s not that each game tends to be somewhat separate from the series, each of the games is completely separate. They don’t share characters or even worlds. Some are high fantasy, some are almost sci-fi.
I’d recommend the FF7 Remake. It’s old enough for you to grab it at a cheaper price, and new enough to have pretty accessible game mechanics.

I used to vape on mesh and cable wick. Some people think you need cotton in between but you do not if you know how to set it up right.
The coil can be wrapped directly on the mesh or cable as long as you build up a layer of non-conductive carbon between them. Back when they were popular most would use a torch on the mesh or cable to get it scorched. Then you wrap coil gently in complete contact (no loose/floppy coils) with the wick.
The fun part is working out the hot spots by pulsing and actually poking the coil where it tries to short on the wick…it really is an art to get it right.
Once it’s set up correctly you have a nifty juice conduit straight to the coil - you actually have to tip the atomizer to let the juice flow. It can be an excellent vape but kind of a PITB to get right.
