Discovering that this is a common occurence is comforting. I thought I was crazy or something.

LyraTheUnholy , to books in Fiction or nonfiction? Why?
@LyraTheUnholy@lemmy.world avatar

Fiction has always been my preference: I started reading to find my own world to take refuge in, when I was young, and fantasy, specifically, really fulfilled that need. Escapism is the main reason I still read books. I never really got into historical biographies, however I do love a good philosophy or neurolinguistics book if I am in the mood to learn something new.

I will raise you one. Sometimes I see lots of colors and patterns right before I sleep or wake in the middle of the night. Like I took some sort of psychedelic

pleasestopasking ,

Hypnagogic hallucinations, completely normal!

You’re right! But once it happened when I was partially off the bed with my head hanging off, so combined with blood rush to my head and a pounding headache! But the patterns were cool at least

I’ve been playing for the last three seasons now. I was going to break my F2P status to get Ghost-Spider but the decisions made by the developers the last month or two made me decide full-out against putting any money into the game if they don’t pull their heads out of their ass.

Currently: RPi4 with CasaOS, running Pihole and Home Assistant, which I honestly rarely use, unfortunately.

Potentially planned: -Jellyfin -Rustdesk server -Some samba solution on RPi4 for my hdd I currently have hooked to my router, any advice on what I should look into for that would be appreciated.

maxheadroom , to selfhosted in Welcome to [email protected] - What do you selfhost?
@maxheadroom@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Hosting a whole bunch of stuff for myself, the family and also the public. For the larger family I’m hosting eMail but using a managed service offering for that (Hetzner). Too old to run my own IMAP/SMTP infrastructure ;)

For a few private societies I’m hosting:

For the public I host:

Mostly formyself, but not restricted I’m hosting:

  • Pixelfed
  • LinkDing for Bookmarks
  • Excalidraw
  • Grafana
  • OverLeaf
  • StandardNotes Server
  • PiHole
  • GitTea
  • FreshRSS
  • Minio S3-kompatible Object Storage as Backend for Mastodon & Pixelfed (on an old Dell Optiplex at home over my DSL Line)
  • GoToSocial Fediverse Client (On a RaspberryPi at home)
  • PeerTube for public projects (on the same old Dell OptiPlex)
  • PeerTube as private Video Streaming platform (on a Dell Precision 3500 tower)

Most services run in Docker Containers on some VPS at Hetzner. Some stuff runs in Docker Containers on old spare hardware at home.

qaz ,

Are you using the mail service from Hetzner or are you using their servers to host it yourself?

maxheadroom ,
@maxheadroom@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I’m using the Mail service from Hetzner. I did host my own eMails for more than 10 years but eventually decided it’s too much hassle.

qaz ,

I’m also using their mail servers, but I’m having some issues with DKIM. Is DKIM working fine for you?

I like Cloudflare’s registrar a lot. Zero BS and great integration with the other services I’m already using.

g5pw OP ,

Yeah, that’s a solid choice! I’ve used their proxy service and was pretty solid.

Scrappy , to selfhosted in What are YOU self-hosting?
  • Home Assistant (running on RPi, proxied to VPS)
  • Zigbee2MQTT (running on RPi)
  • NodeRed (running on RPi)
  • Joplin (VPS, opensource note taking app)
  • Minecraft modded modpack (VPS, statech 1.0.3) Probably a couple more I’m forgetting.

This is all in docker containers behind a reverse proxy using Traefik. Im happy with the setup as it’s really versatile and so far hasn’t failed me. Biggest upgrade I’ve done is replacing the SD card of the RPi with an SSD

aucubin , to selfhosted in Gandi announced a price increase and discontinuation of free mailboxes

I use INWX. Prices are very cheap and their DNS supports most of the record-types available, which I didn‘t have at some of the registrars I was at before.

lemmyvore ,

How does the INWX DNS edit look like? In their docs I saw they offer a table where you can edit records one by one, using their predefined form. Do they also offer a way to edit all records at once as text?

Soulplayer , to selfhosted in Best self-hosted photos?

I’m using photoprism. It closest to Synology photos. I use nextcloud to automatically upload the pictures but photoprism to view and share them.

Brightwave , to gaming in The best open-source games you know

I haven’t seen any incremental games get posted. They aren’t exactly traditional games, but so many of them are open source like Antimatter Dimensions or Synergism. Bitburner is a unique one as an incremental hacking sim, since it relies on actual scripting to grow and automate tasks.
