There’s nothing wrong with using DD for this, but unless you’re sure of the geometry of the new SSD, you may run into issues. The size of your new SSD needs to be exactly the same size or larger to fit the existing partitions of sdc since you’d be doing a block copy. Get a slightly larger drive to be safe and you’ll be fine.
Honestly, DD is hard mode for this. Use a cloner that checks these things or shrinks partitions beforehand to prevent issues if you decide to go with a 2TB SSD.
Couldn’t I just shrink a partition myself? I could clone the LXCs to the 4TB drive and just shrink the LVM partition significantly. DD the disks, recreate the LVM on the new SSD and move em back, right?
Using a larger disk isn’t an option, unfortunately. I don’t have that kind of money.
It might not be, but I am intimately familiar with it. It’s proxmox itself that’s the wildcard here. I will shrink the LVM and then DD it to the new disk.
This is really the kind of thing you should be working on with a therapist and not lemmy. I know there’s catharsis and support to be found here, but we are not the help you probably want to be looking for.
I’ve had this issue before. My limited understanding is that your home server fetches copies of communities somebody on your server is subbed to. But if you’re the first person, it can take it a few hours to federate (took mine a day.)
My biggest gripe with big tech is how governments of the world encourage their worst behaviours. Governments and businesses have failed to maintain their own level of expertise and understanding of technology.
Today everything relies on tech but all the solutions are outsourced and rely on “guidance” and free hand outs from vendors like Microsoft. This has caused situations where billions are poured into digital transformation efforts with fuck all to show for it but administrative headaches, ballooning costs and security breaches.
I’m so tired of silicon valley frat boys being the leaders of our industry. We need to go back to an engineer and ideas led industry. Focused on solving problems and making lives better. Not making bullshit unsustainable business monopolies with a huge pile of money. Right now big tech is the embodiment of all of capitalisms worst qualities.
P.s. apologies if my comment is a bit simplistic and vague. didn’t want to write a 10 page rant but still wanted to say my 2c about the state of things.
Proxmox is just Debian. Use any partition-aware copy tool. If you have it set up for UEFI, just copy the EFI partition and all that stuff too and you should be set.
Guys, I’m actually getting nostalgic over the messy-but-still-kinda-fun 2010s. Everything was just so much more exciting back then, and if it was absolute garbage, it was still fun to make fun of it (cough cough 2013 Mac Pro, garbage quite literally).
Yeah, it was no “sunshine and lollipops” timeline, but still, over the literal boring hell of the 2020s, it was LEAGUES better.
