sem , to selfhosted in Would you buy "self-hosted in a box" hardware?

From reading the comments, I think you could be a lot leaner by selling the $100 setup fee, and telling people which “kit” is supported, and they buy that on their own.

That way you don’t have to deal with any of the physical infrastructure of buying/selling/storing hardware, and people can do some customization.

However I do think you’d need to put some restrictions in place so that people don’t buy cheap crap that doesn’t work and expect you to set it up and support it. They have to buy the kit or other compatible hardware.

I’m not sure what services you’d support, but personally I’d be interested in something like a personal introduction and setup of

  • docker
  • proxmox
  • yunohost
  • backups / restore (practice restoring)
  • smb shared folder
  • pihole / pivpn (can you have wire guard and openvpn setup at the same time for different uses?

Maybe migration of

  • nextcloud

You could make different prices depending on what service they want, kind of like a bike stop.

I wouldn’t want a perpetual subscription, but I could stomach something like $100 setup + $5/mo for limited support for a year.

Best thing for me is that community support also exists for all these things too, but it’s hard to do it on your own sometimes.

TachyonTele , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in How do you set up wake up alarm and not miss it ?

This might sound blunt, but you need to grow up and accept that you need to wake up on time. Missing three alarms every day is childish.

Go to bed when you need to.

andrewta ,

Naaah this couldn’t possibly be a medical condition.

TachyonTele ,

Are you a nurse or a doctor?

andrewta , (edited )

I think you have this backwards.

You are the one who is diagnosing and saying that it is only a case of get more sleep/it’s childish to over sleep. I’m saying, look further, it could be a medical issue. Don’t just take the easy way and claim it isn’t anything other than need more sleep.

iopq , (edited ) to linux in Goldilocks distro?

NixOS is super easy. It gets a bit complicated when you use flakes, but you don’t need to to start.

You just put the system packages into the configuration so you can replicate that system everywhere.

But if you don’t care, just install everything to the user profile! It just works like any distro then, no config files to mess with

The first power spike you will experience is actually setting up a service like Jellyfin by just editing the configuration.nix, though. It’s so much easier than having to mess with the configuration yourself (someone already did the work for you)

If you don’t wake up by noises, you may want to consider an alternative option. Smart watches vibrate, for instance, and there are various alarm clocks you can put under your pillow that’ll also vibrate to wake you up.

DarkThoughts , to fediverse in Mbin instances

I'm quite sensitive to Tankies and seen some other Lemmy instances that seem problematic but I have not noticed any mbin instances standing out in any way. But all mbin instances combined are just a few thousand users at best, so it might just be too few users to even make an impact if there was a specific Tankie instance.

    @Kekin@lemy.lol avatar

Not really through Caddy but for my setup I have it so the ssh port for Forgejo is only accessible through tailscale. So for push/pulling updated my ssh config file to something like

Host git.mysite.com HostName tailscaleMachineName User git Port 1234

Then doing git pull [email protected]:user/project.git works just fine as long as I am connected to tailscale

Otherwise you could open the port for Forgejo’s ssh so that you can access it without any vpn

    bionicjoey ,

    Blackout , (edited )
    @Blackout@fedia.io avatar

Yeah, it's like saying South Detroit. Never seen it written this way, only SoCal. This fire is in Orange county and I used to live in one of the valleys there. One time during a large fire that was ~8 miles away we had a firefighter come to our place and tell us to prepare to evacuate. Because that fire so far away could make up that distance within an hour with favorable winds and the dry conditions.

    nilloc ,

For people outside CA it’s almost always Southern California. Occasionally SoCal is used, but usually in really informal settings only.

But as someone from Detroit. South Detroit is said all the time, in that fucking Journey song. Even though all that’s south of Downtown Detroit is river (and then Windsor Canada).

bionicjoey , to nostupidquestions in How do you set up wake up alarm and not miss it ?

If you are sleeping so heavily that you sleep through your alarm every time, you probably aren’t getting enough sleep. Go to bed earlier.

fluxion , to asklemmy in I've just been introduced to Taco Bell. What should I be trying?

Something about a simple Double-decker Taco does it for me, but I’m not sure it’s a regular menu item anymore

palordrolap , to nostupidquestions in How do you set up wake up alarm and not miss it ?

There are devices that literally shake the bed to wake up a sleeper. Most often used by deaf or hard-of-hearing people for whom audio alarms are non-starters, but it could work for you if you're actually sleeping through and not snoozing. There are a few that work on smells as well.

They also have strobe light alarm clocks for the same reason. Get both and turn your wake up routine into a rave.
