Hildegarde , to showerthoughts in Vampires are evil because they're incapable of self-reflection.

This has been solved by modern technology.

Mirrors in the olden days were made with silver, and because silver is the good pure metal it refuses to reflect the evil vampires, hence the lack of reflection.

Modern mirrors lack silver so they will reflect vampires just like everyone else!

As a pineapple on pizza enjoyer I am not gonna judge, taste is subjective so no one but you decides what goes on your food. Honestly, this is how new recipes are made. If no one tried new variations then we wouldn’t have most of our favorites!

tiefling , to asklemmy in Tabasco on pizza: Yay or Nay?

Hot sauce on pizza is a staple. Especially a good vinegary sauce. I’ll put aside my ghost pepper sauces and grab my Valentina for it.

ContrarianTrail , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in Why are people on the internet (and Lemmy) so quick to say someone "deserves to die"

Most people are led by emotions rather than cold and analytical reasoning. I believe everyone has the capability to think objectively but that capability gets clouded when ever they’re taken capture by strong emotions. That’s why they can reasonably consider an abstract but difficult trolley problem but then lose their minds when Elon says something stupid on Twitter.

I want to believe that the majority of people around me would infact not want to cast death sentences haphazardly like that but rather they’re just expressing how they feel. It’s a way to signal to the group. “Elon is a nazi and deserves to die” roughly tanslates to “boo Elon”

He who is without sin can cast the first stone.

tiredofsametab , to nostupidquestions in Why are people on the internet (and Lemmy) so quick to say someone "deserves to die"

As someone older than the public internet, these people and positions always existed. The difference in my opinion is that the 24-hour news cycle and online echo chambers combined with less in-person meeting, particularly with others in the community different to oneself has just further isolated and polarized people. There's also an argument that heavily-biased cable "news" (which is oftentimes more "opinions" and sometimes "outright lies") going unchecked has further polarized and divided people.

Noel_Skum , to nostupidquestions in American tourists visiting the EU, what do you think of it?

This is impossible to answer. In one small city (pop c. quarter million) accommodation ranges from about 65k to a couple of million. Ostentatious opulence walks past homeless beggars. Some places have a choice of fibre optic networks whilst others are still using copper wire. (I pay approximately $13 a month for 100gb untethered 5g access, reasonably unlimited fixed access is probably c.$40 p.m.) There’s a choice of food at all qualities and prices. A choice of free public hospitals as well as a private fee-paying one too. There are areas where you can leave your bag on the table as you go to the bar and there are places that not even locals willingly choose to go. A massively mixed bag. The only major difference between Europe and the US (in cities) is that we can walk across ours, in any direction, crossing roads wherever and whenever we want to.

This lazy doctor earns more than double my salary. It’s depressing.

Wait until you find out how lazy people with inherited wealth are…and they make way more than double your salary in passive gains.

prime_number_314159 , to nostupidquestions in how do I accept that a doctor earns more than double what I do?

If you’re in the US, run for Congress, win, reform the medicaid backed doctor residency program, with the aim of opening it up so many more people can become doctors. Then watch as the new supply brings down salaries, and eventually gets lazy/ineffective doctors fired. Revenge is a dish best served nation wide, as they say.

Cataphract , to asklemmy in What is the goto source for free-as-in-freedom information about growing plants and helpful diagnostics info?

As others have stated, you want to contact your local co-op extension if you’re in the states.

extension.org/find-cooperative-extension-in-your-…

The Cooperative Extension System is a non-formal educational program implemented in the United States designed to help people use research-based knowledge to improve their lives. The service is provided by the state’s designated land-grant universities. In most states, the educational offerings are in the areas of agriculture and food, home and family, environment, community economic development, and youth and 4-H. (wiki)

They’ll have free soil sample kits, articles and programs/classes for local agriculture, etc etc.

Anything else will be pirated, shitty ad filled ai knockoff apps, or finding a forum of like minded individuals you can ask. There are plenty of resources out there but a “one stop shop” I haven’t found. The problem stems probably from location, information is vast and mostly irrelevant if you’re not in the same growing zones. The local co-ops will have individuals, employees, and articles posted up, they’re really helpful when it comes to reaching out to them in my experience.

He had one or two good bits in there, but man…I haven’t watched him recently, and I think that he’s a lot weaker in 2024 than he was during his first time around.

Like, I remember him doing a beautiful video montage a few times that had people “debating” their past selves, where they made inconsistent statements. I feel like that really added to the discussion. He could make a point and do so humorously.

He got the accolades he did for improving the political discussion from just a comedy show.

But most of this was pretty meh, IMHO.

That being said, I don’t know who’s writing for him these days. And his team didn’t have a lot of lead time to cover the debate, so I can kind of understand there not being a lot of great material there. Maybe they’ll have more-meaty stuff on the debate in a day or so.
