JoYo , to nostupidquestions in Ok so coffee is made from coffee beans. And beans are *also* made from beans. Why is nobody making, like, black bean coffee?
@JoYo@lemmy.ml avatar

coffee is a seed, not a bean, pulse, or legume.

You could try drinking the juice out of a can of beans 😹

Dead torrents are a lot less common as people are often rewarded for seeding torrents for long periods of time or seeding torrents with very few seeds. You often get faster download speeds on torrents with few seeds as people often use seedboxes to maintain ratio.

Mario Wonder also does that. Anyone know any others?

Not quite the same, but in WoW, you couldn’t talk to the opposing faction. So sometimes people would make characters like this just to hang out in the other faction’s zones and communicate using only emotes. Good times…

LibreOffice on an old HP laptop I got for free, still running win10 because I can’t be assed to change OS on the half-dead creature. It’s currently the home of two on-going projects and one that I will go back to whenever these two are done, or at least done telling me their stories for the time.

My only real advice is the one everyone should have heard by now: Just write something. It doesn’t have to be good, it doesn’t have even have to have a greater context. Exercise your creativity. Get comfortable with it.

It sounds like the half-dead creature is older than mine :D

Thank you for this valuable advice, the idea of writing came to me when an old aunt told me that she had started writing after the death of her mother. It had helped her overcome depression. And I must admit that I feel surprisingly good since I started writing !

Not a paleontologist, but these renditions seem shockingly consistent for a dinosaur. T-Rex for example went from full upright to balanced to covered in feathers in half this timeframe. And let’s not even talk about poor iguanodon…

You should setup a yunohost server for her.

But you should be upfront about being a teacher for her not being a helper.

For the others in the topic, yes teaching people to be autonomous with the digital is a lot of work (and a lot of phone calls), but it’s also really rewarding for both you and “the student”.

@astrsk@fedia.io avatar

The thing to keep in mind if you go the peroxide/retrobrite route is that it makes the plastic physically more brittle and weaker in order to obtain the original coloring and the shell will yellow again at an accelerated rate unless you also coat it in something UV protective which will likely end up looking shiny or slightly off. I say just keep it as is and enjoy playing it while it still works.

I have written the first draft of 2.5 books!

The first one was the 1/2 which just got a little messy and I didn’t enjoy it. It was my first major writing project and I just didn’t organize it well enough. I also grew out of the idea quickly and decided to stop and not waste more time.

My second book I managed to finish at 70k I believe (it’s been a while). Similarly I grew out of the idea by the end and it would have needed major revisions to push through editing.

My third and most recent one I really love, the first draft is complete and I am slowly editing it. Though editing seems to be my weakness it seems because it’s taking far longer than it should. This one I would love to actually clean up and eventually publish but yeah, going to take a while to get there!

I use Scrivener to write in and I highly recommend it! (you can usually find some discount codes for it as well). I like to use it to quickly draft the storyline and then expand each scene as I go. It also has some handy features for organizing research notes and pictures. It’s packed with so many features so it’s a pretty popular writing app among writers in general.

xiao OP ,
@xiao@sh.itjust.works avatar

You have a real commitment ! I hope to keep this motivation that is in me. I’ve heard good things about Scrivener. Unfortunately at the time there was no version for GNU/Linux… But I’ll look at it again !

Not sure if it need a specific term for that but watered-down seems to be the one being used for ages.

jballs OP ,
@jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah. I was having trouble finding exactly what I was looking for by googling “Naked Juice watered-down”. I did find something else that suggested specifically what I was seeing with Naked Juice described as Applejuiceification. But that doesn’t seem as versatile to describe other food products.

How does Joplin hold up with larger files? I’ve just been using Google docs, which I don’t like for several reasons. One of which, is that it gets really choppy when you hit 100+ pages.

Revonult , to games in What's your favorite controller?

X-Box 360. I have an old official one for my PC. I played Dark Souls with it so it is now ingrained into my body. Also all the years of Halo.

I really dislike the X-Box One controller. Feels too big in my hand and just off.

I fear the day my wired one breaks since they stopped making official wired ones for PC.

Grangle1 ,

Aside from Microsoft selling it as one, there’s a reason the 360’s contoller design is basically the de facto basis for most PC controllers. It’s the most comfortable one I’ve used for 3D games by far. Everything you need is easy to access. Nintendo lifted essentially the same design for their Wii U and Switch Pro controllers.
