Mickey , to books in Are you writing a book ?

I have written the first draft of 2.5 books!

The first one was the 1/2 which just got a little messy and I didn’t enjoy it. It was my first major writing project and I just didn’t organize it well enough. I also grew out of the idea quickly and decided to stop and not waste more time.

My second book I managed to finish at 70k I believe (it’s been a while). Similarly I grew out of the idea by the end and it would have needed major revisions to push through editing.

My third and most recent one I really love, the first draft is complete and I am slowly editing it. Though editing seems to be my weakness it seems because it’s taking far longer than it should. This one I would love to actually clean up and eventually publish but yeah, going to take a while to get there!

I use Scrivener to write in and I highly recommend it! (you can usually find some discount codes for it as well). I like to use it to quickly draft the storyline and then expand each scene as I go. It also has some handy features for organizing research notes and pictures. It’s packed with so many features so it’s a pretty popular writing app among writers in general.

Annoyed_Crabby , to asklemmy in Is there a term similar to "shrinkflation" when food is made cheaper instead of smaller?

Not sure if it need a specific term for that but watered-down seems to be the one being used for ages.

Yeah. I was having trouble finding exactly what I was looking for by googling “Naked Juice watered-down”. I did find something else that suggested specifically what I was seeing with Naked Juice described as Applejuiceification. But that doesn’t seem as versatile to describe other food products.

How does Joplin hold up with larger files? I’ve just been using Google docs, which I don’t like for several reasons. One of which, is that it gets really choppy when you hit 100+ pages.

Revonult , to games in What's your favorite controller?

X-Box 360. I have an old official one for my PC. I played Dark Souls with it so it is now ingrained into my body. Also all the years of Halo.

I really dislike the X-Box One controller. Feels too big in my hand and just off.

I fear the day my wired one breaks since they stopped making official wired ones for PC.

Grangle1 ,

Aside from Microsoft selling it as one, there’s a reason the 360’s contoller design is basically the de facto basis for most PC controllers. It’s the most comfortable one I’ve used for 3D games by far. Everything you need is easy to access. Nintendo lifted essentially the same design for their Wii U and Switch Pro controllers.

Annoyed_Crabby , to nostupidquestions in Ok so coffee is made from coffee beans. And beans are *also* made from beans. Why is nobody making, like, black bean coffee?

Probably because of how much taste coffee can be extracted via brewing vs black bean. Probably gonna takes some time to extract the taste of black bean, by then it’s might as well be soup.

Also due to the taste and smell.

I’ve bought a house, got married, published two books, do stand-up and host a small game show, survived two strokes, transitioned, and have a lot of friends who think I’m tolerable.

KDE Neon is not a puzzle since there is no solution

Iceblade02 , to linux in I legitimately want to run Linux as my desktop OS, please tell me how to meet my requirements.

Those 5 requirements are not small things, but as a (relatively) recent linux migrant, here’s my take.

  1. Keep using iTunes (but use the windows version) - through wine. You get to keep all your stuff as is for now with the possibility of migrating to another service in the future.
  2. See above, stick with your current device, keep using iTunes for now.
  3. If it’s for private stuff LibreOffice suite does just fine though + the thunderbird email client. If it’s for work you should probably have a work device, but there is also winapps for linux, which isn’t official by microsoft, so it might be a bit funky.
  4. Maybe try out proton if you want something trustworthy to back up your photos. They’ve recently added a service for that. Costs a subscription though.
  5. Keep using evernote. There’s a linux client.

Obviously there will be hickups, and things’d be a lot more smooth if you were willing to make some adjustments, but this is perfectly doable.

What about if you use “sudo reboot” command?
