The German international broadcaster “Deutsche Welle” has some interesting podcasts on various topics. For example the African roots series

Oh, this is wonderful. I’ve just subscribed. Thank you!

I like DW and used to follow the Inside Europe podcast, but they had a lot of British and Irish people presenting the shows which sort of dampened the feeling of escapism I had been enjoying.

poVoq , to fediverse in Using messaging protocols (XMPP, Matrix, etc) for federated social media vs. ActivityPub?
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

I think XMPP is a nice supplement to ActivityPub instances for more private chat. You can quite easily hook the user database of Mastodon or Lemmy to an XMPP server and have the same user address work for both that way.

matcha_addict OP ,

I would even say XMPP would be a better underlying communication protocol under ActivityPub, as it specs many aspects that ActivityPub does not.

poVoq ,
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

XMPP via its pubsub implementation could function similar to ActivityPub, but that part of XMPP is a bit neglected as few apps use it for anything more complex. XMPP’s real strength is in real-time communication and I think it’s good to stick with that.

Glasgow , (edited ) to fediverse in What made everyone move to Bluesky or Threads instead of Mastodon?

Bsky is more twitter like and less confusing than mastodon.

Bsky is federated too.

Just bridge them all together. Threads and nostr too. Then everyone can use what they want.

edit: seems this already exists. techcrunch.com/…/openvibe-combines-mastodon-blues…

Is difficult to take such an interesting fact seriously when is presented in such a stupid way.

Sorry, sir. Will only present you interesting facts in a serious manner from now on.

Interesting facts in a stupid way or stupid facts in an interesting way. We only have enough for 50%.

My current focus:

  • hall effect sensor to avoid stick drift
  • i prefer the xbox layout for sticks
  • abxy button layout, because not all pc games support ps buttons
  • cabel, cuz lighter and no sudden loss of input
Uncle_Abbie , to fediverse in What made everyone move to Bluesky or Threads instead of Mastodon?
@Uncle_Abbie@lemmy.today avatar

Bluesky is a lot easier to use fresh out of the box. Even though their feature set is quite similar, Mastadon has a clunky and confusing UI, and still lacks a native iPad app-- instead they offer a poorly ported iPhone app.

That’s led to more people using Bluesky, and it snowballs from there.

Wore hard contacts back when those were a thing. Trained myself to look straight down when I drop something. No pause, don’t look for the thing, look straight down immediately, catch it on the bounce.

Caveat: This does not work when a spring pops on your project. Place a flashlight flat on the floor and scan. My gunsmith has a sweet trick for springs. Take it apart inside a bag.

We are products of our environment and different people come from different environments.

This is different than silly “race science” or whatever you are implying in the meme.

Except the US Federal Court determined that Google has indeed engaged in anti competitive behaviour. Gemini apparently doesn’t want to share that little nugget of information.
