Meh.

I was getting a Chinese takeout a while back. A guy came in to pick up his order and sank 4 cans of Carlsberg Special Brew (7.5% ABV) in the 5 minutes it took them to get it ready for him. He wasn’t savouring this beer, he was just fucking necking it as fast as possible.

Who knows the struggles other people are going through and the things they do to get through the day without losing it.

But I didn’t know Mbin could federate with Lemmy. But I’m sure Lemmy/Mbin probably won’t federate with Pixelfed, or Peertube.

I think all of these are "don’t federate well currently ", but it’s a goal to improve federation over time

For example, Lemmy is federating with Mastodon better than when I first joined. It’s also possible to subscribe to peertube channels from Lemmy, but it’s a bit buggy.

Browser, I guess? Without one you’d be back to early 1990s home computing.

CeruleanRuin , to asklemmy in What's some really unpopular opinion you have?

Nobody should own dogs. They were bred as slave animals in a time before we understood that they were just as sentient as any other being, with pain receptors and emotions just as real as our own. And we have bred them to be miserable when we are not there giving them attention. Their apparent affection is an illusion, a food-gathering instinct honed by countless generations of selective and cruel in-breeding directed by humans who want to pretend that these animals actually love them, when they’re really just pretending because they are rewarded for it.

Also, if you own a dog and let it bark for any length of time, ever, or let it wander unrestrained where it might bite or harass a stranger, or let it take shits and don’t immediately clean that up, you deserve to be put in a cage.

As others have said, it does set you free eventually. Takes too long IMO. The world is really nice and beautiful. I never got totally on board with the control scheme and UI.

I’ve gotten very used to this little free app called Audio Switcher that makes it way easier to switch back and forth between speakers and my headphones.

berryjam ,

This is going to be very handy, thanks for the rec

BCsven , to asklemmy in Do you have experiences where your family members are so much engaged in doing something/sports that the their skill of "lets just sit and have a talk" is nonexistent?

I find that with a lot of sports enthuisists, some make it their entire life, so there are no chill times. One guy even said are you into Hockey? I say No, never watch it and don’t follow a team. He proceeda to tell me intricate details about a game he watched last night.

But I'm sure Lemmy/Mbin probably won't federate with Pixelfed, or Peertube.

Technically, they do! It's not fully-integrated yet so the process is a bit hackish, but because the ActivityPub protocol works mostly the same on the backend, content from any of these platforms can appear on the others without much issue.

The biggest issue just has to do with the way you actually interact with each platform may not translate well on another compatible platform. For example, Pixelfed typically nests replies to comments only one layer deep, whereas Lemmy or Mbin will nest many layers deep. The actual nesting still works just fine when you view Pixelfed comments on Lemmy, and if you join in the conversation and reply in the middle of the thread, your post will nest properly for you and will show inline as normal for Pixelfed users. So in some instances, you may need to know a bit about what platform you're posting to, on top of the platform you're posting from.

There's other quirks like Mastodon replies typically being preceded with @ing the user they're replying to, which isn't a thing on the Lemmy side of things. It doesn't really change the way posting works, and you can choose to not do it and things will still work fine.

CeruleanRuin , to asklemmy in What should I do if I find a bag by the road that I'm concerned it's a dead body?

At the very least, OP, dumping garbage by the road is against the law, so even if it’s just regular garbage, you are reporting a crime regardless. Bonus: a cop has to deal with someone else’s garbage.

Once you make it to Valentine (youll know when) the game pretty much gives you the reigns, but until then, as others have said, the tutorial is pretty long and guided

thayerw , to linux in What to try in a linux distro ?

If you’ve no prior experience with Linux, I’d say just try using it. For the average computer user, the overall experience will be very similar to Windows or Mac.

Go easy on yourself, and don’t try to do/learn everything all at once. Just use the system like you would any other. Once you’re comfortable with the overall experience, you can then tackle more complex stuff if/when you feel the need.

Edit: Just wanted to add that Fedora, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu are all solid choices for beginners.

Trump supporters tend to hang out in the /modlog community. Try there first.

As in part of a review process?

Things like:

  • Software update process
  • Installing software which isn’t in a repository
  • Seeing how the community is for support ?
BCsven , to asklemmy in Are you self aware of different types of hungry?

Yes, my wife is always amazed or puzzled by how I know exactly what I’m missing. Like it will be I need peanuts, or greens, etc. Once I have those I instantly feel full and satisfied. If we don’t have the specific Item my body signals I’m hungry and will nag me for food all day (i assume it hopes quantity will bring in the nutrients needed) There was recent science about the gut nerve signaling your brain when it needs things, and not a one way nerve from brain to gut like they previosuly thought
