4 week board and train program. It cost $4500.

Our standard poodle is a rescue that was heavily abused by her previous owner. She would get scared and bite. I figured the training would be cheaper than a lawsuit. It’s made a HUGE difference in her behavior.

Definitely. She’s smart enough to play dumb to get what she wants.

nous , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in Why do people complain about multiple streaming platforms existing?

I dont think multiple streaming platforms is a problem. The problem is exclusivity. I dont want to pay for every subscription service to watch popular things. I want to watch any show I want on one platform that I choose. Much like I do for music. But no, with TV shows everyone has their own walled garden of exclusives. Fuck that.

overcast5348 OP ,

Thanks. Yes, something like the music app world be ideal.

stinerman ,
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

I could only imagine if each record label had their own streaming service. People would go nuts.

Rexelpitlum ,

No, they would put on a pirate hat and hit the seven seas again.

I mean, that is basically where we are coming from. And the record companies still remembering this is the reason we still have usable music streaming services. Might change again as time passes though…

Kelly ,

Its a fine line. I try to offer a (legal) ad free experience for my son as a matter of principal. But he asked to watch Naruto and it was only available on crunchyroll.

I signed up and the crunchyroll PlayStation app didn’t seem to have a functional search, recently played or favorites list. The best we could so was pick “all titles” and then scroll page by page alphabetically until we get to “N” then we had to remember which episode we were up to and the navigate to that season/episode. Then it would occasionally crash so we would have to repeat the process to resume playback. It probably only took a few minutes by it felt like an eternity of busy work. Needless to say we canceled that shitshow and torrented, if they are a major publisher and they can’t beat the convenience of casual privacy they are in trouble.

Personally its the convenience and UI that does it for me. I’m not using anything fancy but I have a USB HDD plugged into my home router this is accessible as an SFTP and UPnP media server any device on my network. It won’t transcode or anything but for >95% of content it will play fine on any PC/TV/phone/tablet in the house. The biggest issue is tracking viewing progress which can be an hassle is we do it manually instead of having Netflix/amazon/whatever track it for us. If crunchyroll can’t do that much then they don’t offer any advantage over their free alternatives and not worth an $x per month fee.

Rexelpitlum ,

Your description fits, though.

Back to the old, but still very true quote:

“Piracy is a service problem.”

Kelly ,

“Piracy is a service problem.”

Yeah, I agree with that. I just found it disappointing that Sony could buy themselves a monopoly on anime in the western market and fail to provide a competent app for their own platform. Its a classic example of an own goal.

Venator ,

For keeping track of what episode you’re up to, maybe try plex or something

AndrewZabar ,

No, they’d pay because they’re suckers. It’s fine. Those of us who have the willpower to say no, go to the high seas and get what we want when we want it and in the format we want. And we have no apologies to make because the greedy gluttons have wrought it upon themselves.

Purely a subjective opinion (and I apologise if the artist shows up in this thread) but is it me or does it look like the person who made the background took a step back after it was done, marvelled at how pretty it was, and enjoyed the moment before thinking “…fuck I forgot about O’Brien”?

I have a cool background of just the station that I edited in GIMP to dither so it looks nice with Chicago95 (along with a similar Enterprise D for my second monitor), but I only use that on my desktop, as although I love Chicago95, unlike my desktop, this laptop needs to be low-frills manchine, so I can’t afford theme-related glitches as much as I love theming. (Not “no-frills”, however, as I did go through the extra trouble of a btrfs subvolume for home on a LUKS2 partition that auto-decrypts with Clevis)

eldavi , to asklemmy in what's that one sandwich you can't stop thinking about? be detailed

it’s a reuben; but that name is licensed so they call it a russian sandwich.

it’s near the museum of modern history in manhattan.

the corned beef is chunked out into thin-ish shards instead of sliced like all of the other reubens.

the saurkraut is homemade; thick; crunchy; and tart af and the rye is also homemade and super tangy. i suspect that they make the saurkraut the same way they make mexican style pickled jalapenos/carrots/onions/etc.

they also make their own dressing and it’s got a fantastic kick to it entirely due to the fact that the entire staff is mexican; no one speaks english and none of the patrons are wasp americans. (you’re not welcome if you can only speak english).

i haven’t had that sandwich since 2009 and i still crave and fantasize about it each time i want a delicious sandwich so good that it makes you lick your hands clean after you eat it.

i’ve stopped eating reubens because they pale so badly in comparison that it makes me angry to be reminded that i paid for such a THOROUGHLY mediocre alternative.

Why can’t the U.S. buy decent sauerkraut at the store? Why must we make it ourselves or get awful kraut? Germany has a unique and delightful kraut for seemingly every town and village, but the U.S. has exactly one type from a handful of companies that all make it the same. Well, maybe two types if you count ‘canned’ but I don’t reckon that to be actual sauerkraut. What was the topic? Sandwiches? Well, if I could find a good kraut, I would spend my days trying to recreate a reuben-like masterpiece.

tilefan OP ,

memfree ,
@memfree@lemmy.ml avatar

Is it any good? I used to like Lidl and Aldi breads before COVID, when you could slice it right there. They stopped that, and so I no longer had a reason to drive 5-10 miles out of my way to go there. I’d go back for a good sauerkraut, though.

Cobrachicken ,

I’m from Europe, the stuff they have here is good. Was hoping you had one near you to check if they ship it over. Sry if I raised false hopes.

@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve had similar thoughts, and I don’t have a great answer for you.

On the one hand, it seems like we consumers are really spoiled. On the other hand, a lot of these platforms only have a small number of offerings people find worthwhile.

I’m not as disciplined about it as I should be, but I try to limit how many I have at one time. I will regularly unsub from ones I haven’t watched in a while.

PP_BOY_ , to nostupidquestions in Why do people complain about multiple streaming platforms existing?
@PP_BOY_@lemmy.world avatar

Because the services are still only owned by a handful of corporations.

Disney owns Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

Amazon owns Prime Video and MGM+.

Warner Bros Discovery owns Max and Discovery+

Those three companies own 7 of some of the largest streaming services with a little over a half a billion subs between them. Netflix is the only exception to that trend, being independently founded, but they have their own issues regardless.

nous , to linux in Copy 1 through 10, Paste 1 through 10

One of the big problems with this is there is no global shortcut for copy and pasting. At most there are the primary, secondary and selection buffers which applications can copy into and paste from. But each application handles the copy/pasting functionality in their own way. Or rather they typically let the toolkit they are using deal with it.

Klipper, the kde clipboard manager comes close to something like what you want. You can CTRL+C multiple times and it stores a history of everything, then you can assign shortcuts to cycle through the entries and paste them out again. All it is really doing is reading the clipboard when it changes, saving that value than essentially copying from that saved list when you cycle though it. So it would be possible to write something similar that has specific numbered buffers - but you would still be saving/loading into the primary clipboard which applications can then paste from rather than creating a new set of shortcuts to paste from each buffer directly into an application.

Cat 5e does 2.5Gb. Getting higher spec cables might increase the probability of them being well made to spec but other than that, what you really need is good quality cables, Cat 5e or otherwise.
