Sauvandu60 , to asklemmy in Do you approve sex work? Why or why not?

No. Like sexual liberation, it’s harmfull towards human civillization.

not_woody_shaw , to coffee in brewing @ work?

Biggest problem was water temperature. They’d have a microwave, and one of those fancy taps that gives chilled or instant-coffee-hot water, but not hot enough for brewing, and no electric kettle. Can’t put the gooseneck kettle in the microwave. I had a plastic gravy separator thing to microwave the water in for a while. Better to just use something less dependent on pouring technique, like aeropress or clever.

Shimitar , to selfhosted in I spent ~$35 on new cables and my LAN speed increased 6x

My guess you had broken cables or defective connectors. Because even on cat5 (not cat5e) you should get much more than 7mbit, or did you have coaxial? LoL.

In my experience 90% are plugs, specially if you crimped yourself with Chinese tools

BestBouclettes , to asklemmy in Do you approve sex work? Why or why not?

Sex work is going to happen whether it’s legal or not. Might as well regulate it and provide sex workers with a legal framework, healthcare, retirement funds, etc.

Isn’t this using a lot of computing power?

I’ve been testing Ollama in Docker/WSL with the idea that if I like it I’ll eventually move my GPU into my home server and get an upgrade for my gaming pc. When you run a model it has to load the whole thing into VRAM. I use the 8gb models so it takes 20-40 seconds to load the model and then each response is really fast after that and the GPU hit is pretty small. After I think five minutes by default it will unload the model to free up VRAM.

Basically this means that you either need to wait a bit for the model to warm up or you need to extend that timeout so that it stays warm longer. That means that I cannot really use my GPU for anything else while the LLM is loaded.

I haven’t tracked power usage, but besides the VRAM requirements it doesn’t seem too intensive on resources, but maybe I just haven’t done anything complex enough yet.

Cataphract , to asklemmy in Do you approve sex work? Why or why not?

I’ll kinda take a different approach since everyone’s covered the basics with sex work. The problem with how you’ve presented it, is you’re defining an act on how you perceive and want to regulate it. The simple question becomes, “should people have bodily autonomy?”

Everyone has a different opinion on what can be considered intimate/romantic. Some people feel a full body massage is too intimate, others a dinner with a co-worker is too romantic (not agreeing, just throwing out examples). If we start regulating based on how someone feels something should be perceived than it’s a slippery slope. I can fully understand that you believe sex to be romantic while also realizing that others don’t feel the same way or view it as a positive aspect of it. If it’s not being forced on you then it shouldn’t be a problem what consenting adults do in privacy.

Very technical vs not can be very subjective.
It can be a 50 year old sysadmin vs Adam I pulled from the street or a graybeard linux admin vs a beginner sysadmin only in it for thr career instead of the passion (those can be very non-technical but good problem solver folks)

I know my comparison is flawed

@HatchetHaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

i have so many spare sachets of ketchup from mcdonalds, and recently i’ve been experimenting with them to make a good sauce to mix into plain noodles. ketchup, sweet soy sauce, paprika, chili oil, chili flakes, toss in some random spices, and that’s a good noodle sauce.

before finding that combination, i’ve gotten quite a few that were way less palatable.

my alternate answer is spaghetti, just to piss off the italians.

BlueSquid0741 , to asklemmy in What's the most extravagant thing you've bought for your pet, and do you regret it?

Our bird isn’t with us anymore, but years ago I bought her a special made backpack with mesh windows and some wooden perches inside it so I could take her outside. It was excellent.
