P4ulin_Kbana , to asklemmy in What web browser extensions would you highly recommend to others?

My list of extensions- Imagus - displays bigger image when hovered over (Imagus Mod recommended); - Sponsor Block - Skips promotions on YT videos; - TOS;DR - summarizes TOS and Privacy Policies; - Cookie Autodelete - erases cookies when you close a tab, can make you log out regularly if you don’t put an website on a whitelist, though. - Dark Reader - changes the page CSS and creates a dark mode version of any page, while it isn’t always 100% perfect, it has many useful configurations, like whitelisting websites OR words on them, changing to a light mode, but less bright version of it, setting up the time that it activates, and a few more. - Open tabs next to current/Always Right - What the names says, 2 different extensions, but on Chrome I prefer to combine them. - Wayback Machine - has an option to auto archive, can bring you to oldest or newest versions of websites and links. - Search Image - gives you 6 or so options to search for an image online, kind of combines with Imagus. - uBlock Origin - the best ad blocker so far, browsers with built in adblock use it. - Privacy Badger - blocks hidden trackers once it sees then on 3 different websites - WhatFont - displays the font name in a popup, this is more a personal thing, but I enjoy it. - Anti fingerprinting extensions can possibly help. This is a long list, but these are one of the extensions that I have and I most value, there are some otherb too, but those are more aesthetic than anything.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold , to asklemmy in Proton mail, need some clarification?

First. Let me explain some bits about the Play Store. You are using the Google Play store, so of course, it stores the list of installed apps on your Google account. That’s fairly obvious. However, the relation with the apps generally end there. Some apps might have Google account integration (Google Games for example, or just as a login method) but not more than that. There’s also potential Google ads and Crashalytics, but it ain’t “directly” connected to your Google account (It link your device through an unique ID, which Google could correlate with your logged Google account on this device)

That out of the way :

  • ProtonMail android app doesn’t use any of those Google stuff in it.
  • You can download their app separately of the Google Play Store. Throught their website, source-code release or F-Droid (Depending of their project. Proton isn’t consistency with those)
  • ProtonMail don’t care about your Google account, outside of importing your emails into your new Protonnail account if you choose to do so.

Also, there is still a privacy gain, from using an email address from Protonmail, but only when you use it. It is just a better and more private e-mail provider. If you keep using a Gmail and Outlook email, than you will still issues with those emails addresses be used and read, for ads and analytics.

Do note you can use your protonmail address on your Google and Microsoft account. Those services just tend to automatically create an email account on their respectice services by default (Gmail & Outlook) but they aren’t required.

Techhh OP ,

Ok so would you advise:

  • creating a Gmail account for play store and signing up with proton in the apps
  • or using the proton email for play store and apps

Dominos > Papa Johns > Pizza Hut.

Local takeaway is very hit and miss, it’s always some ghost kitchens pizza and kebab sweatshop with rats running around. That’s London baby.

SomeAmateur , (edited ) to patientgamers in August Recommendations Thread: What are you playing?

Shadows of Doubt! Its this sci fi noire game where you play as a cop that became a private eye detective. Their police force was replaced with privatized “enforcers” that uphold the policy of the new corporate government.

You solve crimes the enforcers won’t and take on side jobs to stay alive, upgrade your apartment and build enough social credit to retire to “the fields”- a suspiciously utopian retriement zone far away from the grime, storms and thick smog of the city.

This is an immersive sim. Kind of like a procedurally generated Deus Ex. You can interact with a lot of stuff turn on sinks, open cabinets, read email and newspapers, eat food, watch tv and drink alcohol until you can barely stand.

When it comes to solving crime you can sift through camera footage, take fingerprints, crawl through air ducts, ask people for information, hack into govt databases and more. You put all of the clues on a big conspiracy board in the menu until you find the murderer and bring them in…before they kill again.

Last time I got Papa Johns, a literal child delivered my order alone while her DoorDashing mom watched from her car. I didn’t order through DoorDash. I left feedback informing them that I would not be buying pizza from somewhere that makes me question whether I’m contributing to breaking child labor laws.

I would order local takeout if it were cheaper and wasn’t consistently soggy.

Domino’s is the most consistently “worth the money” pizza near me, with Little Caesars coming in a distant second.

I do this to my boss and I think it annoys him as well.

I share something cool I observed in the lab“So how does this relate to the project goals?” “It doesn’t! I just thought it was cool and wanted to share.”

Pizza Hut - Domino’s - local takeaway - Papa John’s

The Pizza Hut does fantastic pizza, but doesn’t deliver, and is too far away to get takeaway from.

Domino’s is ok. They do decent pizza, but have been getting more and more stingy with the cheese, and are hideously expensive.

The local takeaways all use the same supplier, and the pizzas are average. They can be amazing from time to time, but that’s the exception.

Papa John’s opened here a few years ago, so we tried it. The pizza was so bad that none of us finished it

I use digikam with sidecar files on my main photo editing PC.

We sync this directory with a media server on the local network that enables all of the local devices to access the photos and tags. In theory, it means we could run digikam on another device as well, and sync data between them via updates to the sidecar files, but in practice, we don’t do this and the media server is effectively read only.

Then, we sync the media server images with a photoprism instance that we have running on external hosting. Photoprism recognises the keywords and sidecar data from digikam, which lets me search and access the images from anywhere.

hexagonwin OP ,

That’s great, I never knew Photoprism can detect and work with digikam’s sidecar files. Thanks for sharing.

Hot take: home made cast iron pan pizza. It’s the easiest type of pizza to make from scratch.

Here are some common pizza issues that are easy to troubleshoot:

If you are bad at making the dough right the pan supports it.

Bad at cooking it? The pan helps to cook it evenly.

Want my flavor? You can add seasonings to the pan before putting in dough.

Want to mix it up? Chicago style.

Local neighbors smell the pizza and break into your house? Cast iron pan to the noodle.

Too much dough? Two pizzas.

Not enough dough for two pizzas? Deep dish.

Need the dough to rise? Oil the pan preheat the oven for 2 minutes so it’s watm. Turn it off, sit the whole thing in there.

Vampires? Add more garlic.

Not the right sauce? Loose works fine since you can make a bowl out of the dough in a cast iron.

I hope this helps! Saves on a lot of dishes since you only need the pan and maybe a mixing bowl.

All the big corporate pizza places have barely passable pizza. I get that they are cheap and everywhere, but why masturbate if your local joint fucks and fucks back?

Local joint(one location) 98% of the time. I have seriously considered working nights there until I can steal their recipe and can make their pizza at home once I move too far away to order there.

If I get the rare craving for ultra-thin crispy crust, Rosati’s or Beggar’s. There is another local(one location) place that does a double dough 18" by the slice for $5 that I grab if I am in that area and want all the carbs.

Round Table if I am near one and want to freebase some nostalgia. Giordano’s or maybe Lou Malnati’s if I want deep dish.
