Julian_1_2_3_4_5 , to linux in Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?

honestly: activity pub, matrix, xmpp, markdown and soo many more probably. All of these would be able to solve our walled gardens problem, but the apps with a basically monopoly don’t have much of an incentivw to implement them

warbond , to lemmyshitpost in Can somebody explain to me why this needs Bluetooth?

Serious answer: it’s a “smart” urinal, in that it can report usage statistics, alert maintenance staff to problems, and be remotely controlled.

If you’re in the facilities maintenance business, Bluetooth-enabled equipment can be a good way to get an operational technology network up and running without a lot of costly retrofit.

@tetris11@lemmy.ml avatar

Unserious Answer: it counts the fluid as it passes, because the last counting guy kept getting the count wrong and so people would grossly overpay/underpay when they used the urinal

Julian_1_2_3_4_5 , to linux in Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?

definitely some alternative internet mesh routing standart, just imagine if every device with wifi or ethernet could just extend the network without relying on an isp, yeah they could still serve as a fast backbone, but they just wouldn’t be needed and no disaster could really ever disrupt the whole internet again

JadenSmith , to asklemmy in In your opinion what will WW3 look like and who would be the players on each side?

Just a hunch, but it seems to me that in an event to be called WW3 there would be a lot of infighting. There just appears to be a lot more civil unrest in recent decades, and I just have a feeling it would be a war much more fragmented than the ones before it.

This makes the plot of Another Crab’s Treasure even zanier. (It’s about a hermit crab whose shell is repossessed by the local king)

Julian_1_2_3_4_5 , to linux in What can you do on Linux that you can't do on Windows?

okay basically so many things sooo much better, first of all i can change any part of software of the os for any other one i like. I can fix my installation no matter how broken it is as long as the filse system is still intact.

Julian_1_2_3_4_5 , to linux in What can you do on Linux that you can't do on Windows?

you can do anything without ever using a desktop environment

Wow didn’t expect them to actually make a queue

protist ,

They’re all trying to move up one shell size, so they position themselves as close to the shell they want as possible. If they weren’t in order, the chance they’d end up shell-less increases dramatically

Felt sad for that last crab who ended with a shell worse than the original :(

Also one can help them in this process:

I saw a post a few weeks back about a guy who found replacement shells for hermit crabs that had adopted bottle caps and other plastic trash. Truly superheroic!

Crab coin, a crusto currency

Asafum ,

Seriously though, if crabs used currency this would never happen. There would be one crab with all the shells and the other crabs would have to bring food offerings or whatever their currency would be in order to get one.
