  • Boot to usb
  • Mount your root filesystem
  • arch-chroot your mounted root filesystem
  • mount /boot
  • mkinitcpio -p linux

Steps 1,2 and 3 are the entry way to solve all “unbootable Arch” problems by the way, presuming you know what needs to be changed to fix it of course.

Welcome to realizing the Memes are all bullshit and its just a solid distro that’s worth using for the simpleness. Just go use your computer like the average user is and roll with it

Yep, all this «how do I learn linux» stuff is weird. You don’t learn your OS, you use it. Did you need to «learn» Windows? You just launch it and click your browser / file manager / media player and browse, manage files and watch or listen to your media files.

You can just use your PC as you would regularly use your PC and find solutions once you face some issues. Yes, Linux issues are different from Windows issues.

SynopsisTantilize ,

You got downvoted but as a Systems Engineer when I get home from work, I want my OS to get out of my way. All these other people are crazy.

You’re forgetting the finest feature - you have to tell everyone in the real world and online that you use arch btw.

I like to do this to irritate people because I have a steam deck.

This is probably true of most distros.

dharmacurious ,

This is why I still don’t know more about computers. Lol. Switched to using Linux as my primary years ago, thinking “I’ll learn more about how computers work, and become better at this by forcing myself to use Linux.” Found Ubuntu, it worked well, then found mint, it worked so well I never needed to actually do anything, and switched to fedora when I realized how much I like Gnome, and still never needed to actually do anything, because shit just works. Once you’ve made the switch, Linux is super unobtrusive. It’s just sorta there, in the background, doing everything for you while you play YouTube videos or watch porn. Lol. I still don’t know much about computers, but I now recommend every switch, because seriously, almost no one is computer illiterate enough not to be able to use mint or Fedora.

If you want to learn more about computers by using Linux, I suggest something like Gentoo. Don’t know if it’s still the case, but I started with Gentoo back in 2003 and it took me 3 days until I even had a GUI. Learned a ton in the process about Linux under the hood and how it all works together. Thanks to Gentoo I have a well paid career as a Senior Linux System Administrator.

That being said, i should mention that I grew up with DOS, so I didn’t have the same apprehension as some people, when it comes to the command line and editing config files.

I decided to give a chance to Super Virus Defense. It was made by the brother in law of my best friend, but it was described as tower defense so it sat ignored for over a year. I play on PC, but it’s very mobile like. I’m addicted. There’s a grind element to buy upgrades, but it’s been so non mindless that it reminded me of how big companies just choose to make you suffer. Specifically, I can grind while completing higher difficulties in previous levels or by playing the endless mode.

Playing it made me want to create a post with all the Brazilian indie games that I really liked over the years.

Communication skills, spatial reasoning, visualization, critical thinking, problem solving, reaction time, hand-eye coordination.

Is the government spreading anti-cryptocurrency propaganda or did lemmy got invaded by idiots recently?

gerryflap ,
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

No, people just don’t like crypto because it’s a huge waste of energy that has no use for the average person at the moment and is only used by rich people to get richer without much regulation. Don’t get me wrong, it might definitely be useful when used correctly in the future. Not wasting as much energy by ditching proof of work, becoming actually useful for normal transactions, etc. But right now it’s just an overhyped technology for obnoxious cryptobros.

index ,

This is actually part of government propaganda to discredit cryptocurrencies.

Lemmy servers consume energy too and half of the content is memes, i don’t see anyone complaining about it.

Opisek ,

You can’t begin to imagine just how much energy cryptocurrencies use. A web server can never come close.

I’m sure meta or google energy usage is up there but i’ve yet to see someone complaining about mr.beast or cristiano ronaldo wasting energy with their videos.

index ,

or more like because the government doesn’t have problems with people keeping themself busy on entertainment vs them using a decentralized and open currency that can bypass financial institutions

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m pretty sure the government isn’t forcing people to watch YouTube and neither of the people you mentioned are government employees, unless you’re concocting some elaborate Alex Jones-level conspiracy theory.

Katana314 ,

I mean…I’ll go one further. I know there have been many historical “aged like milk” quotes, like about how much RAM computers need, but I’m still saying this in confidence: I don’t think that cryptocurrency or blockchains will ever have a useful purpose. Their design is built to solve societal problems, but introduces worse problems in implementing them. This goes well beyond just taking too much electricity.

Passerby6497 ,

Nah, idiots bring shitty crypto propaganda and pretend it isn’t just an unregulated security pretending to be an alternative currency (that isn’t usable as a currency for regular people) while using more energy than entire nations, all for a giggle with a shit coin.

index ,

Are you sure you are not confusing propaganda with ads?

Cryptocurrencies are quite easy to use, the process to create a cryptocurrency wallet is much easier than the procedure required to create a bank account or a credit card and these days cryptos are widely accepted even as a currency.

Passerby6497 ,

Are you sure you are not confusing propaganda with what crypto is actually used for?

I don’t care how easy it is to set up a wallet. I cannot take my crypto and go down to the bodega and buy a sandwich. I can’t pay my rent with crypto. I can’t pay my utilities with crypto.

Crypto is not a usable currency for the vast majority of people.

index ,

Before the government enforced credit cards and made them mandatory it would have been really hard to buy a sandwich in bodega with a credit card too. Not sure where you live but these days in most places if you want you can literally pay with all sort of service, they have these big cash registers with the screen that accepts all soft of payment youtubers advertise for.

Crypto is not a usable currency for the vast majority of people.

There aren’t any limits that prevents the majority of people from creating a crypto wallet and using cryptocurrencies

This is why people laugh at you cryptobros. I literally tell you why it’s not a usable currency and you tell me it totes is.

Go back to speeding up climate change with your fake currency and stop trying to pretend normal people are using it to for anything other than unregulated securities trading.

cordlesslamp , to nostupidquestions in What should I know about using a wheelchair for the first time?

Maybe get an electric wheelchair if you can. If you’re not working out regularly, pushing a wheelchair by hand all day could be a challenge, and you’ll definitely sore to the bone the next day.
