Forget one piece!

Put money into your 401k. Learn more about personal finance than video games. Lift heavy things with proper form and put them back down again a lot. Give all people respect and kindness even if they’re being snotty. Brush your god damn teeth.

@Vanth@reddthat.com avatar

AI isn’t mature enough to replace all creatives. If they push back now while they still have leverage, they can block AI from getting to the point where it can fully replace them.

Once it’s an industry and cultural norm, there’s no going back. They try now or it’s over forever.

blackstampede ,

Assuming that creatives can be replaced by AI (meaning there isn’t some soft cap on how good it can get for technical reasons) then creatives will be replaced with AI. The only difference striking makes is whether it happens in 5-10 years or 10-20.

You gotta walk your own path.

Most people know exactly what they have to do to obtain a skill, start a business, make a friend, experience and adventure but simply don’t out of fear of the unknown.

The Internet is helpful but you got to put stock in your own lived experience.

The old don’t stick your dick in crazy is actually good advice but also, unwanted pregnancy can change your life in s very negative way.

The sex in your imagination is never going to live up to reality. Porn and even just popular culture paints a picture that’s impractical irl.

Not really a specific product but those horrible soaking sharpening stones especially if you’re a beginner at sharpening. It’s just too much hassle compared to diamond. That and printer lubricant papers, just make them with printer paper and mineral oil

fern ,

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Estrogen, is in fact, GNU/Estrogen, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Estrogen. Estrogen is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Estrogen, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Estrogen, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Estrogen is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Estrogen is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Estrogen added, or GNU/Estrogen. All the so-called Estrogen distributions are really distributions of GNU/Estrogen!

I_am_10_squirrels ,

Is your gender POSIX-compliant?

Synthuir ,

“I use Estrogen as my operating system,” I state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. He swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision. “Actually”, he says with a grin, "Estrogen is just the kernel. You use GNU+Estrogen!’ I don’t miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "I use Alpine, a distro that doesn’t include the GNU coreutils, or any other GNU code. It’s Estrogen, but it’s not GNU+Estrogen.

The smile quickly drops from the man’s face. His body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth and drops to the floor with a sickly thud. As he writhes around he screams “I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT’S STILL GNU!” Coolly, I reply “If Testosterone was compiled With gcc, would that make it GNU?” I interrupt his response with “-and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. Even you were correct, you wont be for long.”

With a sickly wheeze, the last of the man’s life is ejected from his body. He lies on the floor, cold and limp. I’ve womansplained him to death.

tuna , to linux in What is something you want to use, yet are NOT using?

fish. I think it has most things i want out of the box, so it should be simpler and snappier than my zsh setup. it’s just that zsh hasnt bothered me enough to try it yet.

also nushell, im interested in the idea of manipulating structured data instead of unstructured text

pingveno ,

Just take the dive into fish. It used to have a lot of problems with incompatibilities, but that’s been less of a problem lately.

I haven’t found nushell to be that great as a day-to-day shell simply because it integrates poorly with other Linux commands. But when it comes to data manipulation, it is simply amazing. I’m currently (slowly) working on a plugin to query LDAP. The ldapsearch command uses the LDIF format, which is hard to parse reliably. Producing nushell data structures that don’t need fragile parsing would be a boon.

54m here, can I join in?

Pay yourself first. You pay rent, you pay a car payment, add paying yourself first. That payment can be as little as $1, but it goes into a savings fund AND IT IS GONE, just like any other payment EVERY MONTH. When the savings fund gets to an amount that it can be rolled into something that makes more interest, do it. But that money is GONE, for all intents and purposes. When do you use it? You will know, when you can pull it out for something that is not an emergency, but rather something that will last the rest of your life. No, cars don’t count.

Cars, trucks, etc… Here is the thing about cars and trucks. THEY ARE A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND THE NUMBER ONE WAY YOU STAY ENSLAVED TO MAKING PAYMENTS ON EVERYTHING ELSE. But wait Canopyflyer, you say with a roll of your eyes, I HAVE to have a car, because there’s no public transit where I live. Dude, I live in the United States, no one takes public transit here, I fucking know. So thanks for dropping anchor there admiral obvious. Buy the most reliable and cheap to run car you can possibly find. That doesn’t mean an old shitbox. Buy a car that’s a couple of years old that has a reputation for reliability and has already lost that first year’s depreciation. I currently drive a 10 year old Camry LE, that I bought with 7k on the odo. Using a car to show how big your cock isn’t, is the epitome of stupidity and is disastrous to your future financial health. If you’re driving the latest SmallCockMobile with a $1k payment +… You are a complete fucking moron.

CAVEAT ON VEHICLES: If you can have someone else pay for it, then sure, go buy that ego mobile. That includes the company you work for, or if you’re in a business where you have to have a certain type of vehicle. I have a great deal of respect for a person that works with their hands and needs a truck to carry their tools.

OK, maybe that’s two bits of advice, but both are financial, so I’m sticking with it.

As a company won’t that mean that I should invest more in AI to not suffer through strikes?

As a company owner you’re certainly welcome to try - some have and it’s resulted in some pretty massive lawsuits because it turns out that AI is neat but unreliable.

This is an excellent time to get union agreements in place to prevent investments to refine AI for certain fields.
