Zahille7 , to asklemmy in Have you been stolen from?

When I was in middle school, I had these really cool (imo) Nike’s that were all white except for the stitching, sole, and the trim on the tongue and the inside were a bright, almost neon green. I saw them in the store at the NEX when we were visiting my brother when he graduated boot camp, and I begged my grandpa to get them for me, and he took a or of convincing and he finally broke down and got them for me. I was so happy about those things, I wore them all the time. One Friday night, when I was at some youth thing at a local roller rink that they put on every Friday night, some bastard kid stole them! I was so upset about it, I had to use the phone at the place to call my mom and tell her what happened. I had to sit around in my socks like a jackass until my mom came to get me. I was super bummed about it for a long time; tbh I still kinda am.

Then later, also in middle school, during a school event at night during the winter, my mom’s car got broken into and her purse was stolen from inside. That was very upsetting for both of us.

cashmaggot OP ,

Legitimately I grew up thinking why you can't have nice things because some asshole always swoops in and takes them from you. I always wonder who all is out here just taking this stuff? Like, you know you've gotta still cohabitate around these people. They at some point in your life gotta look you in the eyes o_o and have that heat on them.

Eh. There's gotta be some science behind it. I wonder how much is compulsive @_!?

p.s. - I have a friend who had to lie one way or another. They told me they'd say some of the stupidest lies they could so that they could get it out of their system and talk to others normally. I wonder if thieves were out here just taking pens at banks and shizz if they wouldn't feel the need to be ganking so many people's stuff.

RBWells , to asklemmy in What has been the worst church service you have ever attended?

Oh my God this brought back a memory. It was probably the time my friend invited me to their church and expected me to speak in tongues. Like wouldn’t let me leave until I was filled with the spirit and speaking in tongues. It was terrifying.

SendMePhotos ,

Can you type out a longer, detailed play-by-play so we can eat popcorn as we read it?

RBWells ,

It was so long ago, I remember being surprised that such a regular girl belonged to such a terrifying church, I guess if you grow up in it, it seems normal?

We arrived with her parents and sat towards the middle of the pews, there was the usual call and response and singing and a sort of sermon I don’t remember but then one by one the people in the audience started standing up and babbling. Then my friend did and their parents and the pastor was exhorting us that EVERYONE needed to submit and be filled with the spirit, EVERYONE!! Who, me? EVERYONE! I stood up and made some nonsense sounds and that seemed to satisfy them. I was congratulated and hugged and then there was some more churchy stuff not so crazy.

I mostly remember being scared, and also being so confused that this was “church” to my friend. My mom made us go to “church” and it was guys in robes and some singing, a sermon, some praying, a little more singing, a benediction (really pretty - “May the Lord bless you and keep you, may he make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you”) and then walk out in an orderly fashion. Mostly really boring, not scary because I didn’t believe any of it.

But to her, “church” was this mass of people being crazy and babbling and the preacher yelling, and it never, like, coalesced into order, it was literally a pack of shouting mostly adults, who seemed convinced this was an essential sign that God was speaking directly through you.

Honestly with all respect that is really shitty joke. It’s god damn breast cancer, opposite of hot

I usually just skip them mouldy jokes but like cmon that is beyond the scale of cringe

PlantDadManGuy ,

Terrible things happen to people you love, you have two choices in this life. You can laugh about it or you can cry about it. You can do one and then the other if you choose. I prefer to laugh about most things and hope others will do the same. Cheers.

Emmie , (edited )

I mean do whatever you want but it just comes off as repulsive. like a stain of shit on the new shoes.
This is public space after all, not the bois locker room so that might be embarrassing for you.

And you know you can always count on me to point stuff out so you can avoid humiliation in the future

PlantDadManGuy ,

Thanks for your excessively unnecessary put down. Don’t worry though. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to stop me from enjoying my life and bringing joy to others. Why are you obsessed with shit btw?

Emmie ,

Sorry for that comment, I had shitty time back then and shouldn’t be so aggressive to you PlantDad

RustyShackleford , to asklemmy in Looking at 2 Uninterrupted Power Sources, CST1500SUC and CST135UC2. Which should I go for?

Most usually say to avoid simulated sine wave and others will say pay extra for sine wave.

Someone here might be able to answer the question better, but you might want to pay extra. I think later replacement batteries for the sine wave might cost extra though.

stealth_cookies ,

I wouldn’t worry too much about replacement batteries. They are just standard sealed lead acid batteries that you can replace with generics without paying the high OEM prices. The ones I’ve replaced are just a spacer between two batteries with a sticker holding it all together. I just took my bad ones to a local battery place, said I need replacements and then they recycled the old ones for me.

RustyShackleford ,

Good to hear. So you say there are battery places? I live in the states, worried it shortens my list of choices.

Mothra , to asklemmy in Honest question, how many of you watch the autoplaying videos on websites ?
@Mothra@mander.xyz avatar

Not me, and most people here won’t. You’re asking the wrong demographic.

My mother for example, she watches everything on any website she visits, and she doesn’t always tap video popups away since she knows she sometimes gets accidentally redirected elsewhere. My father and I have offered her adblockers many times, but she always strongly rejects it. She doesn’t want anyone meddling with her phone and she finds adblockers annoying because, very occasionally, they will block content she actually wants to watch and no, she doesn’t remember how to allow permissions for exceptions in such cases.

I bet she’s like the majority of people out there. Most don’t mind the ads and some even go for the bait.

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

Yep, we all know they’re horrible UI/UX, but OP is asking a demographic who knows what UI/UX even means. Most people see nothing wrong with the modern internet, and view ads and unskippable videos as the norm, with no alternative, and happily consume it all.

QuarterSwede ,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

This is my wife. I have a network adblocker and had to whitelist google ads because she wanted to see the pictures of products when searching even though they’re google ads and she knows it. Doesn’t matter, she actually likes them. Gahhhhhhh.
