I’m trying to understand this community and posts there like “how to disprove the lies about the DPRK?” To me, the most telling thing about these pro-North Korea communities is that there are no North Koreans within them 🙃

gzrrt , to technology in 👋 Have you stopped using Google much because of ChatGPT/Bing ?👀

Yeah, pretty much (GPT-4’s a big upgrade over the default 3.5).

That said, OpenAssistant is already really impressive for a project with such limited resources. Would love to see open-source overtake OpenAI quickly (which IMO isn’t out of the question, considering how quickly Stable Diffusion developed)

@gzrrt @dl007

The biggest problem with GPT-4 is that it's severely restricted.

I believe that AI's next big change will be model optimization and open source models will be able to catch up.

As a creative: Blender. It was always a good program but thank god they finally started hiring people, that actually know how to design a usable UI. I remember the times when the devs refused to change the simple default selection to the worldwide standard: left mouse button.

NathanUp ,
@NathanUp@lemmy.ml avatar

Good lord I didn’t know about the selection thing… I might be sick.

XPost3000 ,

Yeah and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Did you know that Blender use to unironically use Shift+Ctrl+Alt+C for a surprisingly common operation?

I don’t actually remember what for, 2.79 was years ago, but I think it placed the object origin at the center of the geometry

I still use google. If I have a programming related query I use it normally. Otherwise I search for example “best cheap iems reddit” because Google has cannibalised itself by the means of SEO.

loki , to piracy in What are your favorite piracy apps on your android box?

Kodi on my Android TV box, I couldn’t use extensions on stremio for some reason (or I didn’t try hard enough). It’s still there and when I try to find a stream for any movie, it just returns blank.

Firefox is the first to come to mind. Also all the KDE software (when run in KDE).

Mersampa , to technology in Why is it so annoyingly hard to set up a Fediverse node?

80/20 rule.

When you are creating something like Lemmy, where you want wide uptake, you need to pander to the masses.

The /r/selfhosted surveys show around half of self-hosters mostly or exclusively use docker. A significant portion of the rest can use docker if needed.

If you’re in the 20% that isn’t covered by the most common setup, then it can be frustrating. But supporting that 20% takes as much effort as supporting the other 80% (see 80/20 rule), and when things are new it’s just not where the effort should be focused.

So you have all those servers, but why can’t you install debian or ubuntu server on one of them?

You could also get a $2/month VPS and run it on that. Beehaw is run on something similar (though apparently $12 a month, but a lot more users).

I use iptvcat.com. Has a lot of channels including BeIN, just type the channel you want to watch and it will give you a m3u link.

any1th3r3 , to gaming in Game Pass - What's your favorite sleeper hit?

i haven’t had much of a chance to get to game pass titles yet, but i highly recommend the A Plague Tale duology (Requiem is still on game pass and is my favourite game in recent memories).

i would also recommend checking out Gamika.me, it makes filtering game pass (and ps plus) games much easier imo (although it can be a bit slow to load initially).

ObiGynKenobi ,

+1,000 for Requiem. I adored the first game, and Requiem instantly jumped into my top 5 favorite games of all time. Such a tense, beautiful, well-written experience.

Yep, there are quite a few forks of it too, eg. one for artists with a friendlier UI, a CAD-focused one, a game engine one etc.

Helix

uthredii ,

For anyone who doesn’t know; Helix is an editor with vim like keybindings with more out of the box functionality than vim.

I am using it too and like it.

The only problem I ran into is that the search and replace function (across.multiple files isn’t very good).
