I think the biggest problem for the vast majority is that they can’t afford to buy much of anything. Hard to enjoy spending the day looking at all the ads for all of the products that you can’t afford.
Q2: It’s possible but doubtful that you’ll get an account unbanned. No idea how they do it (haven’t bothered to look) but bans seem to track across IP and device. Making a new account on the same device after moving across states, my new accounts would still be banned for evasion within a few days. Couple that with the fact that most subs have karma and age minimum requirements and I just gave up after a while
As far as I know, that’s not around here. But the eye exam was only $30, so at least the insurance helped there. It would have only been $10, but they said if I gave them an extra $20, they’d do some imaging thing which meant they didn’t have to dilate my eyes. Totally worth an extra $20.
That’s cool. I think I’ve been using it for nearly two years. I had no prior experience with servers and got a bit confused at times in the beginning but these days I hardly need to touch it. How come you’re thinking of switching to Cosmos just out of interest?
That is a very good question why I’m thinking about switching. I guess out of curiosity and also I think (which I might be wrong) that Cosmos seems to be more secure.
Their website does make security look like a big priority. I wonder about the security of my YUNOhost server but am not really sure how to evaluate it.
Depends on your use case. If you like the content or communities that exist here, then obviously stay.
Lemmy/Kbin/Mbin feel fairly stable about what communities exist and which get actual traffic, so make your decision based on your interests and interactions, as well your beliefs.
I'm on Reddit way more often than I'm on here cause my favorite subreddits don't exist here in any capacity oe have minimal activity
While my initial reaction to this was “wholly fuck that’s expensive” I realize that all those modifiers would make it close to a grand at a glasses shop.
When I've gone to America's Best for an eye exam, yeah, they were none too happy when I wouldn't also buy glasses from them, but I got my prescriptions to go. Fuck em. Didn't have a single problem with the optometrist office in the Target. I'm also pretty sure that the optometry part and the retail frames and lenses part of these stores are at least somewhat separate from each other, business-wise.
The down side of the online "cheap glasses" places is that when your frames show up all bent and twisted, you have to adjust them yourself, and if there's a problem with the lenses, that's a whole thing. Buying from a storefront, they'll handle all that for you. I'm capable of running my plastic frames under hot water to straighten them out and adjust them to my crooked head.
When I got LASIK I wasn’t allowed to wear contacts for a few weeks before the surgery. I bought the cheapest pair of glasses from Zenni. I had new glasses for $17 + $10 shipping.
If I had to do it again I would have my IPD measured by a proper optometrist first. I just guessed at it and got ones a little too small, so they had a kind of fisheye effect.
I wouldn’t call it a scandal at all. MKBHD has a company that relies on Apple hardware and software. They will very gladly accept any bribing from them.
