Because we’re emotional creatures first, we default to what’s familiar or comfortable. Logic/critical thinking take sustained practice and a lot of effort. There’s a study that suggests that many of our conscious choices are simply post-hoc rationalizations for decisions made in the unconscious.
I absolutely no longer trust anyone that insists they’re naturally and perfectly logical, they are unquestionably hiding some fixation or personal opinion which–if challenged–will make them unravel in the worst fashion.
Yeah, it’s one of those weird questions that you don’t know if it’s social (“eh, fine”) or clinical (“well, my lower back’s been hurting ever since I turned 30, but that’s not why I’m here. I’m here because tripped, fell face-into-arm, and bit myself and the internet tells me I need a tetanus shot, but now I’m worried you’ll put me down for ‘self-harm’ and have me involuntarily committed and oh no did I say that out loud?”).
Firefox has settings to automatically hit accept or to automatically hit deny or to first try to hit deny then hit accept if it didn’t work. You could end up agreeing to things you might not want to either way though (as sometimes opt out and deny are seperate things you need to do both for.)
I use Linkding. Imported all bookmarks from browser and added tags. Helps me find stuff later. Search is also good. My bookmark bar in the browser is now only for quickly accessing the stuff I need daily.
