Sorry for the double post that appeared for a while, lemmy was slow/malfunctioning, I deleted the other post and unfortunately by doing so also the answer of @InverseParallax sorry.

aesir OP ,

Here the answer

I’ve got a hacked pyqt5 script that does this, I doubt it’s what you want. Adding mysql support and eventually want to be able to have something like limited math functions so you can add all the values in a tree for stuff like total cost.

If you find something better I’d be real interested, I really want web and preferably app support.

jesterraiin , to fediverse in Why Jami isn't considered as WhatsApp alternative?
@jesterraiin@lemmy.world avatar

Because it’s hard to convince people you know, to abandon what they know and like, and migrate to some other platform they neither perceive as superior, or have their own friends/contacts there.

It’s the problem far older than ICQ…

gliide , to gaming in Why do video game devs tie game mechanics to framerate?

It can simply engine design to not separate the concept of “game ticks” with framerate.

You can do everything in one swoop such as calculate physics, run NPC AI code, update game state, and render the frame.

Lichtblitz ,

This is not correct. Modern game engines support both concepts.

Websites could simply have no cookies and not bother us with them or the note.

Yeah, but then they’d lose their tracking and a lot of the analytics capabilities

Neither of which bothers us, but I suspect it’s a lot of their monetization strategies, unfortunately.

Ever since the api shit happend, and mods left their subs unmoderated, I feel like there are more bot accounts/posts on Reddit than ever.

charles ,

That’s also because a lot of mods used the API to detect bots and other malicious users. These tools were removed so even if the mods didn’t leave, they are now significantly less effective.

  • Bastion
  • Castlevania (series, special mention for Symphony of the Night)
  • Chrono Trigger/Cross
  • Dead Cells
  • Destiny 1/2
  • Dragon's Dogma (mainly Into Free, but still...)
  • Final Fantasy (series, but special mention for XI and XIV)
  • Persona 4/5
  • Portal 1/2
  • River City Girls (probably 2 as well, but still waiting on my LRG copy)
  • Scott Pilgrim vs the World (the game (the soundtrack))
  • Tony Hawk (series); a bit of a cop out, as they're all licensed songs
  • Zelda (series, special mention for the Cadence of Hyrule soundtrack)

And then just a lot of old nostalgia for NES games (Duck Tales, River City Ransom, TMNT, etc) and SNES/PS1 RPGs (Lufia, Super Mario RPG, Suikoden, Thousand Arms, etc)

But that main list contains the ones I either bought or downloaded because I loved the music so much.

MadMenace ,

The Chrono Trigger soundtrack is a goddamn masterpiece. I haven’t played it for years and the songs still randomly pop into my head.

DaSaw ,

Agreed. I never even really played that game. I was a Genesis man back in the 16 bit days, and I’ve found I can’t really play those old JRPGs without the nostalgia factor (and even that’s lost its luster). But even with me not having played it, Chrono Trigger still has one of the best soundtracks ever.

Zoop ,

Maaannn, the Tony Hawk games introduced me to so(!) many(!) great songs, bands, and genres of music! I’m so damn thankful for those games and their soundtracks. They definitely had a hand in shaping who I am today.

You can usually find playlists people have put together of the soundtracks for each game (at least the songs that are available on the platform) on YouTube and Spotify. I still listen to them! Naturally, they hold up really well.

TopHat ,

Spotting Super Mario RPG in there, you might appreciate knowing some people actually recreated some songs with the original synths used by Yoko Shimomura herself.

dormedas , to gaming in Phil Spencer announces Call of Duty deal with PlayStation

Not a huge deal. Microsoft has every incentive to keep Call of Duty on the market leading console. Considering we’re about halfway through this cycle based on history, that means Microsoft would have left CoD on PlayStation 5 for another 3-4 years. This deal is very obviously only happening due to the anti-trust case, and because of the aforementioned 3-4 years it basically just says “we agree to put CoD on PS6 regardless of how well it does.”

Of course, when the companies merge, no regulatory body is going to actually keep Microsoft to their word with penalties high enough to care about.

This merger is bad for the industry without a doubt in my mind.

EarthlingHazard ,

I’d argue this deal is happening now because the anti trust cases are going in Microsoft’s favor. Microsoft and Sony have been in talks for a while to settle the Call of Duty on PlayStation deal but Sony probably thought it would be beneficial to hold off on this deal until the last possible moment in case it gave ammo to the FTC/CMA to stop the merger from happening.

Hdcase OP ,

I would argue that MS had every incentive to put Starfield out on PS5, but ultimately decided against it along with all new Zenimax games. They even estimated they would have sold 10 million copies on Playstation. I think that shows they are willing to forego money from some multiplatform games in the short term if they think they will make more money from Game Pass and Xbox hardware in the long run.

wagesof ,
@wagesof@links.wageoffsite.com avatar

If you go by that logic then there would be no second place console in the market, because every game would exclusively be on the number one console.

Walled garden captivity for any platform has always been anti consumer profiteering and was perfected in the mid 90s after the atari clones all passed into history.

jeena , to selfhosted in Self hosting a Lemmy instance for just myself?
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

I’m doing both on the cheapest VPS on Hetzner, but needed to add more hard drive space, especially mastodon needs a lot.

losttourist ,
@losttourist@kbin.social avatar

I haven't run up my own Threadiverse server yet, but I self-host my own one-person Mastodon, also on Hetzner. Yes, it will eat up a lot of disk space, so if you're trying to keep costs down you need to send all the media to S3-compatible storage. I use Backblaze B2 which costs me something like $2/month for 200GB of Mastodon media.

I would assume Lemmy or Kbin would also be greedy for asset storage, as they'll pull in media (images and videos) for any community you follow. So again pushing that all off to a low-cost storage system such as S3 makes a lot of sense.

jeena ,
@jeena@jemmy.jeena.net avatar

Not quite, most of the media is not pulled in from other servers but just linked to the original one from the browser, there are some circumstances where the media is copied but much less than mastodon.

Mick Gordon is amazing! I tweeted to him one time and he hearted my tweet. My friends and I played this soundtrack a ridiculous amount. Great pick.

TopHat ,

I’m honestly a bigger fan of the classic DOOM I/II (199X) soundtracks. Despite being obvious parodies of existing rock/metal songs, they had a certain appeal. Especially when someone makes a very good cover.

I get why people like 2016’s DOOM’s more “metal” approach, but for me nothing beats an adrenaline-rush song when ripping and tearing those damned demons.
