Addfwyn , to asklemmy in What is a technology/gadget you refuse to use and why?

Most social media.

I used to use reddit, I have moved all my presence over here. That’s about it.
I have a FB Messenger account because that is how a lot of my family keeps in touch with me, and I have this. I had a proper FB account back when I was in uni and Facebook was still only for uni students, but I think I dropped it shortly after that.

It’s not some grand principled stance, I just don’t get most of them because I am apparently an old man. Like Instagram, why do I want to share pictures with just random people? How am I networking with anybody by doing so? I honestly don’t get why it is so popular.

“A man chooses. A slave obeys.”

NaoPb , to linux in Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?

Driver support for (older) graphics cards.

The screen tearing issue (may be related to above)

Dependency hell.

How a program or game used to work fine on an older version but doesn’t work anymore. Basically lack of backwards compatibility for software.

How you can’t always do everything you want in the gui and have to use the terminal sometimes and know some of the basic commands.

How a lot of the gui programs don’t have (usefull) error messages so it just leaves you confused when a program you installed doesn’t want to run.

Just came here to declare my belief that Texas Style Bronto BBQ would be fucking delicious, and the Jurassic Park movies missed a rare opportunity to dive into the delights of discovering prehistoric cuisine.

There actually is a Dinosaur BBQ originating in upstate New York. Sadly, the only actual dinosaur they have on the menu is the chicken.

I'm sadly disappointed, but you've got my upvote anyway.

I’ve had it, it was decent but nothing to write home about.

Well, reptiles and avians are both considered white meat I believe, so probably white.

HouseWolf , to linux in Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?

In my journey away from corpo bullshit into more open-source stuff and trying to pull my friends along, I’ve come to realize convenience is a hard drug to ween off.

It’s almost impossible convincing some people to give up on cloud services because anything that’s more effort than logging into one account on a new device is too much. It’s not like these people are new to tech either, their patience has just been eroded over time by (usually invasive) convenience features.

Also gonna state I don’t think making tech more convenient is a bad thing, doing so without encroaching on peoples privacy and freedom should be the goal.

Talking to myself about niche topics like bourbon, civil engineering, my local city and state, and what not is boring. There just isn’t the user base here to have active discussions on such narrow topics.

ayyndrew , to android in Best phone cases?
@ayyndrew@lemmy.world avatar

I got a Magsafe case for my Pixel 6 Pro and I think this will be a requirement for all my phones going forward (maybe easier with Qi2). The one I got is a Moment case which is nice and thin, but there are parts where dust gets stuck and some parts of the plastic edge have cracked. I have heard good things about Peak Design, so I’ll probably be going with them if I need another case.

RespectMyAuthoriteh , to fediverse in Fast growing Lemmy Communities?
@RespectMyAuthoriteh@lemmy.world avatar

I agree that would be nice to have. There’s “Trending communities” on the main page, but I realized they coded that section to be “today’s activity level vs. the average level”, which means brand new communities with only one post and no comments were being shown as “trending” since today’s activity is infinitely more than the average, which was zero before today.
