I spent the morning listening to the Fall Out Boy version of "We Didn't Start the Fire". Since Star Trek in the Kelvin timeline and elsewhere often re-uses songs from our time, I thought it would be hilarious if "We Didn't Start the Fire" ended up being updated every 35 years or so, till the 32nd century....
Welp it’s July 1st, and I actually had to move from lemmy.world over to lem.ee because that instance is being verryyy overloaded right now, lol....
Probably not but one can hope… to the Fediverse lemmings!
I need to change the screen on my phone and unfortunately the repair shop has to wipe the phone - don't ask why, something related to personal data etc....
When posting a video url on Lemmy, is there any way to have the post display a picture of the video thumbnail? It would look so much better than gray squares with an outlink arrow in the corner.
This might be a stupid question but given (my brief understanding of) how the fediverse works, would a fediverse version of a messaging app work? As a potential WhatsApp or Telegram replacement? Or is there one already?
It’s way nicer here on Lemmy anyway
I now have access to a 3D printer and a bit of time. I’d like to skip this dance of smart doorbells kinda working , kinda not with home assistant. Any DIY doorbell projects out there the community can recommend?
I’m looking for some recommendations for things to listen to or casually watch to stay ‘in the loop’ on the standout games of the year, hear discussion of good games in general, feed my video game fan soul but not just about the newest latest thing....
I recently sort of came into realizing I’m a demisexual, and was wanting to see about if there are any books about people’s experiences as demisexual or asexual or similar....

How many of you practice your karate.
I have photos/short videos of painted miniatures which I want to show to interested hobby communities. I have started a pixelfed.social account as I have heard this is Fediverse's equivalent of Instagram. Whether it is or not is irrelevant - I quite like the interface, so I decided to keep my content there....
Hi, I’m new with self-hosting but managed to set up my own Lemmy and Mastodon instances on a VPS recently. However, I ran into an issue with disk space quite rapidly (which I had way too few, because I started with the cheapest, smallest package for my VPS)....
For example, when I advocate about privacy and data gathering from big tech companies, one of the most common I heard is “I don’ care, I have nothing to hide”. What else have you heard?
Do you folks have any tips on how to get around magazine and newspaper paywalls? It seems like the old tricks are becoming less reliable and it’s frustrating - especially given paywalls seem to be becoming more stringent at the same time.
Anything expensive, unhealthy or a combination of both. Just recently I cooked an overly rich steak dinner of filet mingon topped with foie gras and a variety of sides. Eaten on the couch, of course, because I’m truly a glutton. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d765d26d-d9e2-4730-9914-b89a4c59c87e.jpeg
Since we are all pirates moving away from Reddit I was thinking if another r/Megalinks style community could be made on Lemmy and survive? (Or pehaps already exists?)...
I know people prefer to complain instead of act, but what is something people don’t like but has an alternative?
I have a noob question but seem overwhelmed with all the information I get about it. Basically, why do I need a reverse proxy if all my services are not public? Every guide or video for self hosting there’s always talk of a reverse proxy, have been doing it wrong?...
The team shared their concerns with TPB operator “Winston” who came up with a solution that was officially deployed a few hours ago....
