There are simply some communities I can’t find on Lemmy. For example, I use subreddits based on admissions to specific colleges that would never be able to function on Lemmy due to its size. I’d much prefer to abandon Reddit altogether but the information I need is usually only there.
Currently I’m planning to dockerize some web applications but I didn’t find a reasonably easy way do create the images to be hosted in my repository so I can pull them on my server....
I’ve had a “home lab server” for a while now, it’s nothing special but I think I can do more with it, I just don’t know what to do with it… I currently use it just for a pihole and (sometimes) a Minecraft server or a web server… I used to also have a nexcloud and a searxng instance (which I will probably bring...
There is a place for graphically gorgeous distro’s, but when it comes to ease and speed, Xfce is just the best for me....
As a disclaimer, I am a passive hater of Twitter/X ie I don’t like it as a toxic social media platform and haven’t used it but I am not asking the users to move to Threads or some other fediverse alternative as a paid promoter. Also I don’t really intend to keep a strict tab on its status since I get any related major...
I started with @beta on 2022-04-25, what about all y’all?

I just watched a TikTok about how people used to plug in things to their light sockets when electricity was first becoming popular. And they kept calling the plug a light socket, what rule says it’s not a plug that screws in? And why shouldn’t plugs screw in? We have material science to make plugs and cables hard enough that...
So again, the Lemmy verse is still really confusing and finding the right communities for the right post. This sub seems like they would definitely know about this though...
I really enjoy archlinux so I was thinking on downloading garuda gaming but I’m unsure if that’s the way to go. What distro do you guys use? Have you encontered many problems with it?
I think the reason some people might believe this claim is because we’re taught in school that the moon’s gravity causes the tides. I think the reasoning goes, “well if the moon’s gravity can affect the tides, surely it can affect smaller things too”
Is it used to make headlines/posts more catchy? Does it have any logical explanation?...
Its new homelab time. And with that, potentially a new OS time too....
Amazon is running a Prime Day sale on July 16 and 17. Setting aside the fact that this is two separate days, neither 716 nor 717 are prime numbers. They should’ve done 7/19 instead.
I am not in a great place right now in terms of productivity and flourishing in my personal and professional life, and every time I waste a day, every time I do something that I enjoy at the moment but which is not productive, I feel ashamed....
Every political thread is chock full of people being angry and unreasonable. I did some data mining, and most of the hate is coming from a very small percentage of the community, and the rest of the community is very consistent in downvoting them....
In the US for example the standard is 110V for voltage and 80psi for water. In Europe, voltage is 220V, is water pressure different there too?
