Man, I was working a desktop support job when they first started to use magnets in the laptops for the closed lid mechanism. I was trying to set up a laptop and I for the life of me couldn’t get the screen to turn on.
After like an hour of trying to figure it out and a call to Dell support, I shifted the laptop and the screen turned on. Stupid laptop was so thin the magnet from the laptop under it was causing it to think it was closed.
I just found out the other day that the New 3DS XLs screen open sensor can be tricked by a laptop lid magnet, I was confused AF for a sec on why it was making sounds while closed lol
A couple of years ago I was having a problem with the screen on my laptop randomly turning off and I was afraid that it was broken. Turns out it was my magnetic watch strap tripping the “lid closed” sensor.
That is cultural. It’s poison you take to change your mind state and small enough amounts are usually tolerable enough to not cause too much of a problem. I have a drink from time to time but to say otherwise is incorrect.
Ok now put it in context to this conversation. The post said he gained weight after he became sober from “drug abuse”. You said it is unlikely to gain weight when you quit abusing alcohol. So therefore… He was not abusing alcohol but some other drug that has a side effect of weight loss. You’re welcome, now you can continue not using your brain.
If you abused any stims that make you lose weight a lot, dropping them usually pushes your bodyweight in the other direction. Know a few people like this. They always relapse
I actually did follow those and the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus
I think most of the things are related to laptops where the dGPU can be turned off, but I don't think that's my case since my main monitor is plugged there. I guess what I need to do is find a way to set the iGPU as the default and whatever I need to run on my dGPU i use prime-run, but I'm not having much success with this.
I think you would need to plug all your monitors into the iGPU to drive the output, and then Prime would control which GPU a given application runs on, and then returns the rendering to your iGPU just for display.
Are you using X or wayland? I think display servers only support one GPU at a time?
I'm running Wayland. I do feel that Plasma is using my iGPU to render the desktop since it's quite noticeable some stutters and lower performance compared to disabling the iGPU and having both monitors on my dGPU, but unfortunately I can't really chose what gets rendered by what. On Windows, this setup works fine, I can chose Firefox to use the "power saving" or whatever and it runs on my iGPU, videos get decoded by it.
I tried plugging my monitors on my motherboard (I have a HDMI and DP outputs) and it works as expected, everything renders on the iGPU and I'd need prime-run for my games, though this is far from ideal since I lose VRR and HDR.
I’ve tried to tinker with this too and I got caught wondering, is this what they call reverse prime? I wanted to do dgpu as main, but offload browser etc to amdgpu to avoid the whole nvidia not supporting vaapi conundrum
I've searched a bit about reverse prime, and there's an entry about it on arch wiki, however it seems it's only about X11 configuration and nothing about Wayland or anything else.
Well, at least with my current setup I can get VRR working on my main display without needing to disable my secondary one with my NVIDIA card.
I put on like 30+ lbs when I first got sober. I used food to fill the void instead of drugs. But through perseverance and dedication to improve my life I gained 5 more lbs the next year. With hard work and commitment you too can become an undatable adult at 36 years old, it’s never too late
