We use way too much instead.

Have gotten a dose of this before in the ER. Absolutely do not recommend!!

Do I even want to know? Must feel like you’re dying?

cows_are_underrated ,

That’s exactly what’s happening(for a short moment).

copymyjalopy ,

Ive never rexperienced anything like it. It happens extremely fast. Dr injected into the IV and instantaneously every muscle in my body contracted (at least that’s what it felt like), I lost my vision temporarily although my eyes were still open. Similarly I couldn’t hear anything either. I was filled with an extreme feeling of…rushing…adrenaline… Really hard to describe. I felt my heart give one last big THUMP and then stop.

And suddenly, my heart started again. My vision and hearing restored, I was back in the ER surrounded by Dr and nurses and techs. Breathing hard, somewhat confused and experiencing a little twinge in my back from the contractions.

The whole experience took maybe 3-4 seconds. It felt like minutes.

phoenixz ,

That sounds all sorts of awesome and awful at the same time

Yeah, lots of movies from that era are problematic now. I’m not going to apologize for them, trivialize the problematic parts, or forget about them. All of those characters were gross parodies of stereotypes and that type of humor is no longer palatable to many people. But, this particular scene felt relatively devoid of any actual malice.

True. It only mocks gay people

Wolf314159 ,

Does it really? The whole group of main characters is a bunch of stereotypes, over the top affectations, and worn out tropes. This shows the group explicitly accepting Lamar for who they are and celebrating their accomplishments with a level of physical contact and intimacy that literally was making homophobes at the time cringe.

ghjones , to linux in What file systems are you using on your devices and why?

A combination of XFS and ZFS. I work in high performance computing (academic). While I love the reliability of ZFS for data archival and peace of mind that results provably haven’t suffered bitrot, sometimes I just need a 10 TB temp file(s) with fast mostly-sequential R/W. Appropriate selection of file systems lets me have both.

ghjones ,

As an aside, I’ve been watching bcachefs with some interest, as it seems to be getting faster with every kernel release, building on the data integrity guarantees of ZFS while pushing performance boundaries and being GPL compatible (i.e. in tree). Kent Overstreet et al. have done a fantastic job with this FS.

doubletwist , to linux in What file systems are you using on your devices and why?

XFS on my server VMs and my laptops and desktops.

ZFS on my file server. I’d use it on my laptops and desktops too (and have done when I was using Xubuntu) but I’ve switched toFedora which doesn’t come with a way to easily install with ZFS and I don’t feel like jumping through hoops to get it done. And I can’t stand btrfs. I don’t know what it is about it, but I just don’t like it.

Never was part of the fandom community until the last few years. I can’t imagine people being mad about a black Vulcan or female captain! Star Trek always felt to me (as a straight white dude) as a place where everyone was welcome.

FlyingSquid OP ,

I can’t imagine people being mad about a black Vulcan or female captain!

It was a loud minority. People who didn’t understand that Star Trek has always been about diversity. The “Vulcans aren’t black!” people were especially silly. I kept saying to them, “how many Vulcans out of the billions of Vulcans out there have we actually seen?” And TNG already had women who were admirals, so the complaints about Janeway were silly too.

It’s the usual conservative contingent of Star Trek fans who ignore everything that makes Star Trek what it is in favor of pew pew space battles.
