I watched it today in a sneak review in Germany.

The Film was good. Well told old type of Story, through there was no “catharsis”, the ending was kinda meh.

I can guess why it ended the way it did but still felt a bit like a downer.

The cinematohraphy, the music and the sounds were really good to amazing. The editing during the boarding part was wonky, but once the Crew was on the ship it was good.

The production was really good. I wish the lotr, wot, one piece and other big streaming Shows could Look this good.

The acting was fine. The captain and the first mate were the best, I know them from other movies and they seem to be the most experienced.

Something I was wondering, what was the young guy afraid of at the very beginning. There shouldnt be anything really disturbing left on the ship.

Why not? Minesweeper could be like a reboot of this movie. And Spider Solitaire? The sequel to this movie?

I didn’t realize this was being directed by the guy that directed Trollhunter until a few days ago, makes me a little more excited about this movie. The trailers look corny as hell but Trollhunter knew how to balance the corniness with the seriousness perfectly.

I’m hoping this movie is as fun as it looked in the trailer but I’m also bracing to be disappointed.

I saw this being released somewhere, and I’ve never heard about this movie before. Such a shame, looks like they haven’t invested in promotion that much as I’d be right within their target audience.

I saw it. Overall I liked it. I’ve been a turtles fan my entire life. It felt like a bunch of turtles fans said let’s make the turtles and lets make them 2023. Of course they changed some stuff but I can’t really clutch my pearls because it’s very clear they love the franchise.

Overall loved the animation, soundtrack, and Ice Cube. I laughed quite a bit in the theater watching this. Solid 7/10 movie and I can see a lot of kids thinking these turtles are as cool as I thought the 80’s turtles were.

warmaster ,

Best review ever. Thanks!

Electricorchestra ,

Yeah I hope you liked the film. Honestly my biggest critique is I wish the last animated film I watched wasn’t spiderverse.

I went to watch this movie last weekend. I like movies but I’m not an expert or anything, and I don’t have the best taste so take my opinion with a grain of salt. We went because my wife wanted to watch it.

I liked it. I have to confess that I expected less, but it was funny, it was entertaining, I think there was a jump scare that got me but overall, while it doesn’t feel like a proper horror movie, the “scary” scenes don’t feel silly.

I liked the characters dynamic and LaKeith Stanfield is definitely a great actor, even here where the material doesn’t require too much acting, he definitely elevates the film. He’s the straight man and even then, he stands out among the rest of the quirky characters.

The only moment I felt like something was missing or wasn’t very well done was the scene where

spoilerLaKeith’s character is trying to convince the child to not go to “his father”. I felt like we got a couple of scenes of them together where convincing him is believable, but nothing that was said seemed to me enough to actually convince him. We know that it’s not his father but the child doesn’t and LaKeith never says that, we know that if the kid goes there he’ll die and the bad guy will take his soul but the child doesn’t know that and LaKeith doesn’t say it, we know LaKeith cares a lot for the child and his mom (that’s why we have those previous scenes) but, again, he doesn’t say that. He just convinces the kid by being persistent on saying “you have to come with me”.

I don’t know if it’s actually a big problem but I remember thinking about that scene while I was actually watching the movie. Just a small and maybe ridiculous complaint I wanted to get off my chest.

After the cinema my wife was really excited explaining to me the lore and the references, so I think it’s a better experience if you’re familiar with the ride and the previous movies, but it’s still a fun movie to watch.

I recently saw the new TMNT movie and I have to say I really liked it a lot. I didn’t grow up with the TMNT, so it’s hard for me to say how accurate it is to the originals, but I thought the animation was phenomenal and the story itself was very solid too.

I’ve seen a lot of people praising the animation, so I’m not going to include too much detail on why I liked it (to avoid retreading too much ground), but I really liked how grounded and relatable everyone’s motivations were. Wanting to fit in and be a part of a community is such a quintessential human experience; and lashing out from fear of rejection is extremely relatable as well.

The humor seems aimed pretty solidly at millennials (based on the references made throughout the movie), and I was surprised how adult this kids’ movie was.

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this movie; and after Barbenheimer last week, it’s been a good week for movies for me

MountainBr3w ,

Since this seemed more adult to you, would you say it’s inappropriate for a 6yo?

UrLogicFails ,

I think it should be OK. The movie was rated PG, though it feels like it rides the line with PG-13 a little. I saw the movie almost a week ago so I don’t remember exactly what made me think that at the time, but I was a little surprised by some of the musical cues (though my understanding is some of them are in the trailers). When I said it was adult, I just meant that it didn’t talk down to the audience in a way that would annoy adults

I personally didn’t find any of it particularly objectionable, but I might not be the right person to ask. This website seems to think 11+, but this is the first time I’ve looked at the site so I’m not sure how accurate their rating system is.

MountainBr3w ,

Thanks. I usually go to that site but they’ve been trying to force subscriptions so it’s faded my usage. I think I’ll hold off watching with the kids for now.

So you can run for president in prison but you can't vote when you're in prison or have been in prison.

Hey America, you suck.

NOT_RICK ,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

While I’d like voting rights to be more universal, there are 2 states+DC that allow voting from prison and 20 states where you immediately regain the right once you’re out of prison. A further 17 restore those rights when probation/parole is complete. The remaining 11 have a mixed bag of laws regarding the right.
