One thing I’m not clear about is the impact my home instance has on me. I joined lemmy.world and am currently using the connect for lemmy app. I know when I sort by Local it will only show me posts from lemmy.world, but beyond that are there any things to keep in mind?...

I made some pancakes with a total of 15g of sugar. This produced 4 pancakes, so less than 4g of sugar per pancake. These were sweeter tasting than the cupcakes i made which had 10g each of sugar....
I’ve read on reddit that Google still provides unlimited photos backup if you own Pixel 5a and lower. On rooted Android you can fake that and get free backup storage, but who wants to give pictures to Google?! I was thinking if it’s possible or done by someone to create an environment on Docker by faking device info to...
As we see there are 2 meanings of “so-called” that can be confused or misinterpreted, of which one implies falsehood and the other doesn’t....
This post started out as a question, but throughout two days of googling it became this compilation of links. I will tell you everything worth mention that I found, share my plan with you, and expect some critics (for the infos of course, please not for the silly hyperactivity of my ADHD brain over such a trivial matter 🥲)....
Which one do you prefer?...
So, I am thinking about getting myself a NAS to host mainly Immich and Plex. Got a couple of questions for the experienced folk;...
they feel so ‘chemical-y’ and their texture goes from soft to uncomfy idfk?
I was wondering whether that could cause issues for the limited servers available, like when the mass migration from reddit happened. Would it be bad to add more accounts that would be mostly dormant? And if one does create a throwaway would it be better to delete the account afterwards.
I normally use the Aurora frontend, but I used Google’s app to check something. I couldn’t help but notice that when I swiped and then let go, the page would barely move past the point I had let go. It had no momentum whatsoever. As soon as I got past the ads, scrolling was back to normal and the exact same flinging motion...
It should be within reasonable range, like e.g. you won’t wake up as a Yedi or Superman tomorrow and world hunger won’t be solved just in a few days, etc
Hey there, the developers of Starfield have recently done a Discord Q&A answering questions from the community about several big points. I don’t want to just link to some news article so I summarized the points here in the post....
Why do the instances keep going down? It makes me think that this is not a reliable social network, but the alternatives are not as good.
I want to stream mkv files to Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows. Transcoding isn’t that important. Just want something convenient.
Hey folks, I know we like encoding urls with base64 to keep the automated bots off our hindquarters, I figured out a neat little trick. As I’m sure you are aware, you can share a torrent with the infohash only, without the need to have all the formatting of a magnet link....
Is there something similar to google search site:reddit.com blahblah ? for lemmy?...
I keep reading about podman, yet it doesm’t FEEL as mature to me as docker for a normal user like me. What’s your opinion? Did you already switch or do you keep waiting for … for what? When will you switch?
The admins of your logged-in instance can delete any post of yours they want. This is not us doing it. The Lemmy UI is pretty bad at showing this. On some servers, an admins actions are listed as “mod” in the modlog even though we didn’t do it.
Complete Linux noob so apologies if anything I say or ask about sounds dumb....
