Cookie wall: what is legitimate interest about
Many websites have a - huge- part in their cookie wall, called ‘legitimate interest’. I never allow them and i wonder; is this just a loophole to be able to force certain cookies on us anyway?...

My vote is monk from age of empires 2. These dudes can walk up and stare at your friend chanting for a bit, then suddenly they turn around and attack you. That’s horrifying.
Left feeling a bit empty after playing it for the first time a few months ago(why did I wait so long?) I am afraid no JRPG will be able to surpass it. Would love to have a discussion about similar games that reach the same quality level (Note: I have already played Final Fantasy VI ).
I’m seeing posts about beef stroganoff. Why.
Using my touchpad seems to act as if it’s a joystick - If I touch the edges it acts like I’ve pulled the joystick to the far edge of its movement, etc. sort of like how a steam controller’s touchpads work when emulating a joystick. However, it also just acts like regular mouse input so it’s only noticeable in games that...
I’ve been using PopOS for a few months now, and I’m interested in Arch, but I’m worried about whether or not I have enough experience to do that successfully. Also, I have an Nvidia GPU until I start a new build in the next year or so. I don’t know if that’ll be a problem in Arch. It was a major issue with Fedora for...
So I have an old laptop that I’m trying to use, for some reason when it wants me to put password in terminal it won’t take input .to terminal...
I have noticed lately that a lot of users on Lemmy spell whining as “whinging” what’s up with that? I could understand if it was misspelled “wining” or somthing but that extra g really confuses me. Is this a misspelling specific for some region or is it lingo of some sort?
Suppose there are two employees: Alice and Bob, who do the same job at the same factory. Alice has a 10 minute (20RT) commute, Bob commutes 35 minutes(70RT)....

Just like we have software developed by the community, for the community. Can we have the same ideology applied to hardware ?
Maybe include altitude in both metres and feet, otherwise 80% of comments will be about that whole discussion.
Hi, currently I have a almost none backups and I want to change them. I have a PC with Nextcloud on 500gb ssd that I also use for gaming (1tb system drive). Nextcloud would be used to store/sync images, documents, contacts, and calendar from my phone and laptop. I also have an old pc that has 2x 80gb, 120gb, 320gb, and 500gb...
How does a hot piece of metal and some steam turns my shirt fabric from supper wrinkly to nice looking and straight ?
In the UK, the broadcasting rights for tennis are moving from Amazon prime/discovery+ to sky-sports. The price is increasing from ~£6 a month to ~£35 p/m. I know there’s plenty of live streaming sites available to watch live matches, but when the tournaments are in the US or Australia the time difference doesn’t work. Are...
Over the years, there’ve been various red flags in gaming, for me at least. Multi-media. Full-Motion Video. Day-One DLC. Microtransactions. The latest one is Live Service Game. I find the idea repulsive because it immediately tells me this is an online-required affair, even if it doesn’t warrant it. There’s no reason for...
I recently discovered that you can get Microsoft Edge for Linux (🤢🤮) and am curious… does anyone here use Edge for Linux, or have you ever? What was your reasoning for using it?...
Hey guys, since early this year i’ve started self hosting. I started by setting up my own router. Its been nice so far. Although I’ve recently ran into a problem. Perhaps someone with more experience can point me in the right direction. In an attempt to prevent vlan client from accessing the internet, restricting them to...
I don’t know who greenlit this supposed celebration of TAS, but the writing is cheap, lowbrow and cringey. It’s a total shame that the amazing animation and sound design are paired with this quality of writing. None of the three eps released so far impressed me....
Is there any decent iPod management software for linux available? I have a 6th generation iPod that I use only for music and it’s really the last thing that I keep my windows partition around for. The more I use linux, the more unintuitive iTunes feels. I had tried GTKPod in the past and one other, but they didn’t support...
Ok I think I do know the answer but I never learned it, so I want to learn it today. It’s been about 1 year now we can reliably make 3nm chips, which is impressive on a scale of size. But why is is better? My theory is simply: We can make a product the same size but add more on it because it’s smaller, making it stronger and...
Hello selfhosters. I have a Linux VM spun up on my server that I access via Remmina. Would it be ok for me to expose Remmina for external access? It would be behind a reverse proxy as well as Authelia 2FA of course. Is that secure “enough”, just for a VM?
