I'm the administrator of kbin.life, a general purpose/tech orientated kbin instance.

I was never on twitter, it's always seemed like an alien concept. I did enjoy reddit, but mostly on my phone with the RIF app. So find it unlikely I'll go back now.

kbin instance, calling in! And that's the cool thing. It's not just one website, or even one project. But we can all still communicate.

Their comment also duplicated over here via federation. But I've also seen entire posts duplicated and of course posts without pictures (despite being on the original instance). So I think it's quite busy all round right now, causing much weirdness.

No confirmation mail to Outlook.com from fediverse.

Hi, I just realized that my previous attempts to join the fediverse via Mastodon or Lemmy where just blocked by my choice on the mail provider. I never got any confirmation mail neither in the inbox nor in spam, tested with multiple servers, mask addresses. Just right now tried it with my Gmail account and got the mail...

I'm running a kbin instance (just me on it so far) and my email setup has spf, dkim and dmarc setup and Outlook still puts the mail in spam because of the tld. Most lemmy and kbin nodes have the funny tlds and so will suffer this too.

My mail to Outlook does definitely arrive though.

Yes, definitely problems federating, kbin.social is under quite some load and I made a new kbin instance (I'd previously only been testing). It's been up over 2 days and not received a single thread or comment from kbin.social. In the meantime it's filling with content from lemmy instances, like this thread for example.

But, I'm sticking with kbin for a few reasons. First as you say it's a younger project and things will only get better, and as a software developer maybe I can help with that some. But, also because I like how it looks and prefer it over others.

I think there's a lot of functionality missing, but it's going to come over time. For people not prepared for this kind of bleeding edge operation I'd certainly not blame them for wanting to use a more established project.

It's a good thing, when federation is working properly. It spreads the load over many instances and the users can still converse across instance boundaries without issue.

So the community is the federated instances for all instances connected regardless of the software being used.

I've never had an interest in twitter. Just not something I could see the point of myself. But it sure is popcorn inducing watching Musk speedrun it into the ground.

No. First twitter, then reddit, then twitter again. Because musk refuses to be outdone. Even with the bad things? Especially the bad things!

Watching him destroy that site is quite astonishing. I've never had an account with twitter. It never appealed to me. Making it a requirement to have an account to even see content isn't going to convince me to sign up.

Since many companies use twitter as their mouthpiece on the internet. I wonder how they're going to react when they're now only able to engage with registered users. I'd be surprised if this works out well for the company to be honest.
