Exactly, the only reason people fear automation is due to capitalist relations where people are forced to work in order to live because the purpose of work is to produce further wealth for people who own capital.

However, this problem doesn’t exist in a socialist society where the purpose of work is to produce things everyone needs. If production of these things can be automated then it just means less work and more free time for the people.

Mastodon has millions of users now, and it’s a whole ecosystem of sites that have been running on user donations for many years now. The whole idea behind federation is that it’s distributed. With Reddit or X, all the users are on the same site, so a single host has to be able to deal with that volume. However, with distributed systems no single server needs to grow too big. Most servers have a few thousand users on them, and hosting costs for that are pretty reasonable. Only a small percentage of the users have to chip in to keep things running.

Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said 10,000 soldiers would ultimately be deployed to the border area. He made the announcement in a state radio interview a day after a different official said Poland was sending 2,000 additional troops to the border over the next two weeks, essentially doubling its military presence there.

Once you read the article 5, you’ll find out that it says that in case a NATO member is attacked then NATO will convene and each country will decide individually what level of support it will provide. There is no obligation for countries to send troops or get directly involved. And of course if Poland is stupid enough to attack Belarus or intervene in Ukraine then there is no obligation to do anything at all.

Of course, even if NATO did agree to fight all together, it’s pretty clear that NATO is in a dire shape having sent much of what it has to Ukraine at this point. US has literally admitted to running out of basic stuff like artillery shells now.

Y’all can downvote all you like of course, but that’s not going to alter reality. Maybe it’s time for people to reflect on the past two years of war in Ukraine and how everything western media claimed about the conflict has now turned out to be completely wrong.

It means that individual countries get to decide the level of support they provide ranging from nothing to getting involved militarily.

And no, despite Russian fanboy insistance, the US isn’t low on ammo. From the Secretary of the Army’s testimony to congress:

US aims to go from making 14,000 155mm shells each month to 20,000 by the spring and 40,000 by 2025. This is the amount of shells Russia uses per day in Ukraine.

And of course, the problem for US is the state of its industry you can’t just create factories, supply chains, and trained workers out of thin air the way you print money.

It’s pretty clear that people who believed all the bullshit before the war have learned absolutely nothing throughout the war.

Objective facts have nothing to do with anybody’s opinions and the facts are that quality of life in China continues to improve for the vast majority of the people. The government is actively working on doing things like eliminating poverty, creating public infrastructure, providing healthcare, housing, food, and education for all citizens. Chinese government practically eliminated poverty, and in fact China is the only place in a world where any meaningful poverty reduction is happening. If we take China out of the equation poverty actually increased in real terms:

If we take just one country, China, out of the global poverty equation, then even under the $1.90 poverty standard we find that the extreme poverty headcount is the exact same as it was in 1981.

The $1.90/day (2011 PPP) line is not an adequate or in any way satisfactory level of consumption; it is explicitly an extreme measure. Some analysts suggest that around $7.40/day is the minimum necessary to achieve good nutrition and normal life expectancy, while others propose we use the US poverty line, which is $15.

China used more concrete in 3 years than US in all of 20th century, they built 27,000km of high speed rail in a decade. 90% of families in the country own their home giving China one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. What’s more is that 80% of these homes are owned outright, without mortgages or any other leans. Real wage (i.e. the wage adjusted for the prices you pay) has gone up 4x in the past 25 years, more than any other country. This is staggering considering it’s the most populous country on the planet. Finally, social mobility in China is such that Americans can only dream of.

Anybody who looks at this and thinks China is evil is utterly morally bankrupt.
