X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads… TikTok? How to chose in a fractured academic social media landscape
https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2023/12/07/x-linkedin-bluesky-mastodon-threads-tiktok-how-to-chose-in-a-fractured-academic-social-media-landscape/ @academicchatter
The comparison of the platforms looks largely accurate to me. I am not on X anymore, so I can't tell what's going on there science-wise. For the other three microblog platforms, I still find it interesting that many seemed to have passed on Mastodon, jumped on Bluesky and now seem to skeptical toward Threads. Not judging, just my observation.

@benlockwood @ingorohlfing @academicchatter I agree. Quite a few of my colleagues say they find it “useful” and don’t see hateful content and are therefore happy to stay…. Pusillanimous. And in part driven by alt-metrics and the need for “impact”.

and people, I have a question.

Do you listen to music to wind down or fall asleep, if so what kind?

My favorite music types to wind down and fall asleep to are, for some reason, very energetic, high bpm genres, with 90s jungle taking the lead.

For the uninitiated, this is jungle: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWTv94Wk9KTkJ?si=uO72w4IjS0mHZB4q2a4BZg

I’d like to hear your experience with music and its calming effects on you, so feel free to share.

I'm building a small list of resources for neurodivergent students for my big 1st year undergrad course. What would you recommend that a first year undergrad, who lives with OCD, ASD, ADHD and/or anything else, should read, watch or join.

@hosford42 @neurodiversity @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd That's really helpful. Will fire it up a bit later!
