Does anyone else act more 'human' when solving captchas?

Whenever I have to do a captcha where you must select all tiles with bicycles, I know I can just click through super fast, but I feel like that might make the website suspicious, so I purposefully slow down like “Geez, this is a melon-scratcher!” or click and then unclick a tile like “whoops, silly me, thats an umbrella...

riley0 ,

I freaken hate captchas. Goddam Google has put me through as many as a dozen before showing content. Audio captchas are faster, though. I get through on the first try with those.

I got it once on Chrome. Haven’t used Chrome for YT since. No trouble with FF and UBlock Origin.

riley0 ,

Thanks! Freetube works great. Here are directions for importing YT subscriptions. docs.freetubeapp.io/…/importing-subscriptions/

riley0 ,

No trouble for me using Yandex and AdGuard AdBlocker, either, fwiw.

My car has a manual transmission. I learned to drive on a manual transmission. I prefer it. When I drive a car with automatic transmission, I step on its nonexistent clutch.

Edit isn’t working, so here’s a second one gfycat.com/coolveneratedfrillneckedlizardThat is all.

I just rewatched that one, and I disagree. It was uncomfortable at first, b/c it seemed so hoakey. The crew repeatedly hurt themselves trying to cross the room. Then the point was to observe the child closely. Dax was the one who finally got it. It was a commentary on observation/cognitive bias.

riley0 ,

For me, it echoed real life, when someone with power over you wants something you shouldn’t have to and don’t want to give. It was uncomfortable, and I’m glad they did it.

riley0 ,

Maybe comedy was the way they got it on air at that time. I seem to remember an article about the size of the bosom they gave Quark–much bigger than Moogie’s. I also seem to remember the size of that bosom decreases during the episode.

I watch UK TV with a VPN–BBC, UKTV, Channel 4, ITV. You have to find a UK address for iplayer, but that’s not too hard with a search engine. I started doing it with Surfshark, then BBC got better at recognizing VPNs. You need to do some homework around that, and don’t believe most online advice, as it tends to be paid advertising.

Amy’s Foods until the strikers say otherwise. I support BDS always. No fast food, no fast fashion.

I think I could do Linux. I used to do MS-DOS. I’ve got a 10-yr-old Dell laptop to experiment with. I’ve been advised to start with Mint. Is there something “for dummies” with very clear instructions?

I came to ask whether there’s a way to thank or otherwise appreciate a github team for something very useful.

riley0 OP ,

Had to reinstall browser today. Looked for donation button when I re-downloaded. Found a whole bunch of contributors, but no donation button.

I’ve been following this on Russian- and English-language sites. Nobody but BBC alleged Russian responsibility, and they cited no evidence. Remember when Boris Johnson personally tanked peace negotiations?

riley0 ,

I have to ask, who else these days? b/c I fear we are demonizing Russia, Russians, and Putin the same way we demonized Iraq, Arabs, and Saddam Husein before our awful foray into that country. UK and France have been actively discouraging Ukraine during peace negotiations. See for yourself. en.wikipedia.org/…/Peace_negotiations_in_the_Russ…

riley0 ,

Show us the evidence.

riley0 ,

Ah, poor NATO citzen, having their spoon-fed, govt-approved view of the world challenged by someone who actually pays attention to what the rest of the world says. Wallow in your ignorance. I’m done.

Me too. I just found hexbear.net. Much better.

‘nerd shit’

On Star Trek? Imagine that! (I’ve been nerding over there, off and on, all day) 🤣

Incidentally, when I looked up that user earlier in the day, they account was 8 hours old.

Chapo Trap House lemmy.

riley0 ,

No evangelism of any kind–rather dirtbag leftism. Chapo Trap House is defined on Wikipedia. They’ve been around for a while. They’ve got podcasts. They write books. They’re smart, well-informed, and take no prisoners. They’re also comradely toward honest, curious newcomers. If one were, say, proudly liberal and sure in their understanding of history and politics, it probably wouldn’t be a good fit.

riley0 OP ,

Why not? Christine & Nyota had a great time.

riley0 OP ,

How do I get to bonus features?

riley0 OP ,

They played it well. It was jarring, and I laughed, and I was disappointed.

riley0 OP ,

YES!

riley0 OP ,

I dunno. I see Klingons as extremely old-school, culturally. They treasure old ways of fighting (bat’leth, qutlutch), worship (Kahless, dark, candle-lit spaces), being (honor bordering on chivalry, belonging to the house of one’s father), and singing (manly voices–Michael Dorn even lowered his speaking voice for TNG). For me, hearing Klingon high-pitched voices during a crisis was analogous to hearing “Eek! A mouse!” It was funny, but I’m still experiencing cognitive dissonance.

riley0 OP ,

Humor me here, please. Everyone else sang in voices you could expect from their characters. Why was Klingon singing, alone, breaking character?

Star Trek executive producer wants more Strange New Worlds episodes, and I’m nervous (screenrant.com)

Strange New Worlds has been my favorite Trek since Next Generation, and if the quality continues, could easily be my favorite Trek ever. But with the e.p. wishing for more episodes per season, there’s a danger of diluting the show by adding weak episodes that would have never made it in a 10 episode season....

riley0 ,

I liked seeing La’an’s character develop in this one.

riley0 ,

Someone who identifies very closely with hustle & grind culture. Someone who claims a personal brand. Someone who kisses up and kicks down.

riley0 ,

Gosh, will Spock and Chapel survive this time?!

No, that’s how they get back to the canon. Sad. I’m as confused as you about the Gorn, though. I’m also wondering about the affable/bloodthirsty crew and trying to make sense of the title, “Hegemony.” Here’s one way might make sense: The demarcation line was a power play, kind of like NATO moving to Russia’s back yard or Russia reclaiming Crimea. Pike crosses it, another power play. Are we looking at a battle for unipolar power? Depicting the crew as both affable and bloodthirsty might be a way of holding up a mirror to ourselves. The Gorn are from hell. Demonizing people makes it easier to kill them. Interestingly, toward the end of the episode, Pike has a sentence about understanding the Gorn. Don’t groan. All Star-Trek series have included social commentary. (Remember Pelia’s comment, a couple of episodes ago, about holding onto valuable art in case this no-money experiment in socialism were to fail?)

Yandex is working so nicely for me lately–even better than Firefox. I think any possible spying by Russian capitalists or government will have little to no effect on my life.

riley0 OP ,

Thanks. Here’s a screenshot. prnt.sc/gQSYgv6qqvbm I just get a white screen with the redirect in the URL bar.

This morning it’s working in FF & Chrome. It hasn’t worked for more than a week. Apparently, I didn’t close Brave last night, so the screenshot’s from that. Without doing a new search, I clicked on one of the links to a Russian site from last night, & Brave took me there. Maybe my fairy godmother? (I clear caches at least daily & clear out temp app data in Windows at least 2/wk. I leave the computer on overnight if I’m torrenting or seeding.)

I thought it probably had something to do with economic warfare. I wish it would end, but that’s a different matter. One of the best things about the internet has been free & open exchange with people from anywhere.

riley0 OP ,

TYSM! If I could bother you with one more question, which part of the URL is the giveaway–clck? jsredir?

Download from mail.ru cloud

Has anyone done this successfully? There’s a button that says “download,” but nothing happens. I tried a couple of free video downloading apps, and they say access denied. I can watch, but not download. (Some people post videos of classical music concerts there, then share links on a forum, in case you wondered.)
