I’m kind of an anti-purist. Give me an emulator with save states and rewind, a scalefx filter and whatever other nonsense. Add on the convenience of emulators and it’s no contest for me.

raptir ,

The Turtles collection is a great example of this. Rewind, save states, even some debug mode stuff. Well worth it.

I think part of it is a discovery problem. Which, I know, I don’t want some algorithm telling me what content to look at, but it’s tough to find all the stuff I’m interested in just by searching.

Also out of the loop here, but is the plan for Cassia to truly function as Wine does and only handle system calls, or are they also going to include an x86 emulator?

Hi everyone, I’m raptir, esq.

Sue me.

Steam On Linux Usage Spikes To Nearly 2% In July, Larger Marketshare Than Apple macOS (www.phoronix.com)

According to these new numbers from Valve, the Linux customer base is up to 1.96%, or a 0.52% jump over June! That’s a huge jump with normally just moving 0.1% or so in either direction most months… It’s also near an all-time high on a percentage basis going back to the early days of Steam on Linux when it had around a 2%...

You don’t need to know how to code certainly. If you choose a “fire and forget” distro like Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc… the only thing you would really run into any challenge with is running Windows software. Games are pretty well handled by Steam/Proton at this point, but other Windows software like, say, Word or the Adobe suite can be a challenge. If you’re okay with using alternatives (libreoffice, darktable, gimp) you’ll be fine.

I’m baffled by how poorly Diablo 4 handles “mediocre” connections. I have been using T-Mobile Home Internet for a while and I’m even able to stream GeForce Now reasonably well, but I run into lag spikes on Diablo 4.

I can pretty well track my performance issues to network performance. If I play in the morning when TMHI is performing better I don’t see any issues, while in the evening when the network is congested I run into lag.

Sure, it relies on materials that are finite, but there is way, way more of that material available in comparison to how much we need.

Not trying to be “difficult,” but isn’t that what people thought about coal/oil at first? I understand that the scale is different, but it still needs to be a stop gap as opposed to a long term plan.

Sweet tea can have as much sugar as soda. You would need to add 10-15 sugar packets to a single glass of iced tea to have the equivalent amount of sugar.

I lost 70 pounds over about four months last year primarily via calorie counting. I know it’s anecdotal, but I absolutely felt hungrier after the same meal if I had a diet soda with it compared to an unsweetened iced tea, or even an iced tea with a sugar packet or two. It’s great that you have the willpower to stick to the rest of your diet regardless, but there is definitely a reason people recommend cutting it out to make it easier to follow a plan.

They’re not super saturating it. They’re putting an amount of sugar in the tea that can dissolve at room temperature, it just takes a long time to do so.

Also are we going to talk about the fact that I’ve never heard anyone outside of the south pronounce pecan as “pee-can?”

raptir ,

I’m not talking about that far North.

The WiiU wasn’t even terrible, but was the only console release that could be considered “bad.” I’m not sure what pattern they’re talking about.

raptir ,

This was only true since the Wii.

I don’t know about “ethical” but justified yeah.

Certainly if media is not available for purchase I have no problem with people pirating it. But also if it’s not available in a reasonably accessible format. For example, I wanted to show my son the original TMNT show. I would have happily bought it on Vudu, Amazon or Play Movies, but it’s only available on iTunes. I have all Android devices and don’t even have a personal Windows device, so I would need to jump through serious hoops to get it working if I bought it.
