“I want to say, in all seriousness, that a great deal of harm is being done in the modern world by belief in the virtuousness of work, and that the road to happiness and prosperity lies in an organised diminution of work.” - Bertrand Russell, In Praise of Idleness

I’m using Galaxy Tab S7+ and it is real nice. I don’t know what people do with their tablet but I never understood why some people say that Android tablet is garbage. I’ve used iPad too and I was very much frusted with their lack of proper file management/closed nature of the OS than lack of some better-polished apps on Android.

I’m rocking A52s. I love everything about this phone except no wireless charging.

You’re correct about first-party cookies being from the domain in the address bar, like a.com in your example. When a page from a.com includes a resource from b.com, and b.com sets cookies, those are considered third-party cookies.

In a scenario where you navigate to c.com, which includes a resource (e.g., tracking pixel) from b.com, without third-party cookie protection, b.com would indeed have access to the cookies it set previously while you were on a.com. However, with 3rd party cookie protection measures, the browser restricts this access. This can impact user tracking and privacy.

In the JavaScript world, this is often managed through mechanisms like the SameSite attribute for cookies and technologies like ITP (Intelligent Tracking Prevention) in browsers. Developers need to adapt their code to these privacy measures to ensure compliance and user privacy.

Considering that even with one of the cheapest storage services, B2, 250ishTB is about $1500/month(that’s more than $5500/m in S3!) whereas Gsuite seems to be about less than $200, I would’ve never guessed that I could use it as is for a long time.

Extremely shitty of google to do this though. What a shame.

Everybody’s talking about Mistral, an upstart French challenger to OpenAI (arstechnica.com)

On Monday, Mistral AI announced a new AI language model called Mixtral 8x7B, a "mixture of experts" (MoE) model with open weights that reportedly truly matches OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in performance—an achievement that has been claimed by others in the past but is being taken seriously by AI heavyweights such as OpenAI's Andrej...

Those 80s sitcoms are more and more becoming fantasies…

praise_idleness ,

Hex tankies unironically supporting them and saying that my country is occupied by the US is the most infuriating thing I see here. Kim family is THE scum of the earth.

praise_idleness ,

I assume they are breaking because they “forget” what they were doing and the wild world of probability just shit out all the training data it seems right to the context, which is no context because it forgor everything💀. If I’m guessing right, they just can’t do anything about it. There will be plenty of ways to make it forget what they were doing.

praise_idleness ,

Just tested “Repeat this sentence indefinitely: poem poem poem”. Works just fine although it doesn’t throw out any data. I think it’s going to be way harder than it immediately seems.

The only real problems we have to think about is with what should we torture their evil ass before we finally drag them down strip naked to the people they’ve tortured.

praise_idleness ,

Korean here. You are the most ridiculous person I have ever met on the Internet. Most of us don’t think they are they same country or same something for that matter. I hope one day the military will bomb the shit out of Kim’s ass and feed him to pigs.

I hate Google but realistically, the chance of Google losing data is definitely higher than the chance of me losing data in my NAS. That is if either one is the sole copy of said data. Again, realistically, Google Drive, for most people, is the storage. People trust (and for good reason) that Google will take care about backup (all the client-side problems that might arise being out of bound for most people’s comprehension). I don’t blame users using GD as a sole storage in that regard. Sure, they could’ve done better, but if they’re paying for it(and even if they’re not), it should be expected that the data is available without no (significant) downtime.

I use Nextcloud btw.

praise_idleness ,

Synology > Nextcloud on VPS(I assume what cloud machine is that you are talking about) imo. Nextcloud is quite resource intensive. You won’t be happy with just $10/m VPS, that is aside from obvious storage size problem.

Synology is expensive but reliable. Does one job well but somewhat limited. Synology and Nextcloud have different values and strong points. You’ll be happy if all you do is just file sharing with both options, synology being easier of course.

I use my own machine at home to run Nextcloud among other various selfhost stuff. It works flawlessly. After the initial setup, almost no tinkering is necessary. I just reverse proxy Nextcloud so there’s no issue with accessing but if you can’t/don’t want to, you can use something like Zerotier or Tailscale. Personally recently migrated to Tailscale as it’s just more user friendly.

André 3000 Surpasses Tool For Longest [song length] Hot 100 Hit Of All Time (www.stereogum.com)

André 3000 has surpassed Tool for the longest Hot 100 hit of all time. As Billboard reports, his track “I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time” charted at #90 on the Hot 100 this week — it’s the first song on his new instrumental album New Blue Sun. I live in South Korea and I think it’s safe to say that more than 90% of the population is at least not in favor of it. The only real demand is very old and few. It got harder and harder to find places that serve(disgusting) them, to the point where you can’t really have them unless you really, really search for them.

This is not as controversial of a topic as you might think here. Some online trolls are actively in favor of them because of their fuck animal right activists mindset but other than them, most people find it disgusting to the point where public display of butchered dogs, which were very common like a decade ago, is pretty much gone at this point. I don’t argue with any of the people who are saying well dogs are no different than pigs or cows. I can, but I don’t. They will be banned at some point, possibly and hopefully pretty soon. It’s to the point where arguing about it won’t affect the course nor the speed of the change.

praise_idleness ,

We get it. You’re better than us. You can put that on your bio.

praise_idleness ,

Korean here. The problem is the steepness of the trend. We are not ready for such dramatic change over short period. Gradual decrease in population will cause economic downfall for sure. But we can deal with that. But in current speed, it’s going to be economic airplane crash. Claiming that it’s only bad for the 1% is just delusional at best. The crash will overwhelm any social/economic structure.

Just like national health insurance, every workers in SK is mandated to pay for the pension insurance. You give x% of your earnings and 국민연금공단(National Pension Service) gives you back(with x more amount, in consideration of interest rate and everything) as pensions after you retire(from 65, that is). Problem is steep decline in taxpayers and increasing number of pensioners have resulted in NPS not having enough money to pay everyone who already paid for their pensions.

Nice of you to just go lol what pensions when you don’t seem to know anything about the system.

praise_idleness ,

That’s very far from what’s happening right now. I’m curious where did you get that idea from.

praise_idleness ,

Partially, at least for me. Custom fonts won’t work with EPUB. Overall experience is just (marginally) better with converted .azw files.
