nublug , to linux in My Experience Of Linux Gaming (Switching from Windows)

awesome!

fyi: i used garuda for a few months and while i loved it, i did have some stability problems and couldn’t solve it and also found some garuda team on their forums to be fairly rude in some cases so i switched to endeavourOS. it’s very very similar to garuda, also arch based, except i’ve had no stability issues and found their website faq and articles and forum much more helpful and kind to noobs than most distros and i liked that a lot.

this isn’t to say don’t use garuda or anything but that if you do have issues then endeavourOS is an easy sidestep with also great gaming performance and similarly solid theming.

also if you need to use EA app i recommend installing through heroic games launcher; the lutris script seems fucked for now.

also also look up setting up a single gpu passthrough windows vm and how to hide hypervisor for any games that flat out don’t work on proton like fortnite or in my weird case sniper elite v2, and i think also pubg is borked still. some anticheat games are working but sadly some are still being stubborn. this solves that without dual booting or windows getting it’s own partition.

try installing ea app through heroic games launcher, works flawlessly for me.

bumping bc ea app and games running flawlessly when installed through heroic games is the solution to op’s problem imho. am i shadow banned in this sub or something? o_O

nublug , to memes in Oh No, anyway

uh 1.458333, 3’s repeating of course

so that’s 1:27:30 when accounting for minutes instead of fractional ten-hours.

that is, of course if it’s a 10 hour DAY clock; if it’s a 10 hour am/pm clock then it’s 2.91666 6’s repeating fractional ten-am/pm-hours which is 2:54:59 am.

i think. i’m not super good at math, but i tried.

uh, 3:30.

heroic games launcher with the latest proton ge version selected in the wine manager tab installs and runs ea app, bf1, bf3, and sims4 no problem for me. don’t have titanfall to test it specifically.

nublug , to risa in Join Starfleet. Fast reaction time not required!

counterpoint: the closeups are meant to be seen as simultaneous, it’s a sort of psuedo slo-mo so you can see each character’s reaction in a fast situation.

nublug , to risa in For the American people of the Federation, today is voting day.

yeah i’m sure not voting definitely will change things

oh wait

and before you go on about doing other stuff than voting, you know that voting doesn’t keep you from also doing those things? not voting is just bad, no good. you’re not giving the state the finger you’re laying down and saying ‘do with me what you will idc.’

nublug , to linux_gaming in Distro suggestions, anyone?

endeavourOS kde is gorgeous and by far the most stable and ready-out-of-the-box arch version i’ve tried.

also the eos-packagelist --install [desktop environment] command lets you install the other endeavourOS themed DEs or WMs just like the distro installer does so you don’t have to reinstall or work on themes yourself if you want to change after install.

pipewire is also ready to go and i think it uses some kind of realtime thing, but i’m using the default kernel so i don’t know that it’s a low latency kernel level thing by default.

games have also been top notch for me, the only tweaking i’ve done is adding -vulkan launch options to steam games.

overall i highly recommend it. i’m using kde but tried cinnamon, i3, and sway (though community editions like sway are going unsupported soon) and they are all similarly well-themed.

nublug , to nostupidquestions in How do I come up with a good username?

i got mine from using a random word generator until i hit one i liked the look of

nublug , to linux_gaming in Diagnose system crash during gameplay?

sounds like maybe your power supply might be dying or your system is pulling more than that psu can handle. mine recently blew a capacitor with a loud bang and magic electronics smoke after a few months of odd problems with shutting down in the middle of an intensive game. i think the fan died about a year ago bc my temps had been higher than they used to and after it popped the side of the case by the psu was very warm. i came to find that my gpu upgrade pushed my power draw to 450w when my psu was only rated for 530w and not 750w like i thought i remembered. makes sense it was pushed to it’s limit. maybe recheck your power requirements with an online psu calc and compare to your psu rating. and also look to see if its fan is still running and not clogged up with dust.

similarly if you’re using arrow keys to move the cursor where you want, ctrl + arrow key moves you along word by word instead of letter by letter.
