tf wrote that title.. nuclear is defacto renewable

nicman24 ,

have you seen how large wind turbines are ?

nicman24 ,

there is enough U238 to last until we get there. except if you think fusion is more than 500 years away (yes, that number is out of my ass)

nicman24 ,

you do not need a breeder to recycle most of it. also that 95% is still there for future us to use when we are able to.

nicman24 ,

have you ever been in Sweden? it is a a rocky mountainous and mostly dark region. they only renewables that they can easily manage is geothermal and iirc they do not have the correct crust for it

nicman24 ,

the wind mills would be in inaccessible areas so you are better to just go with nuclear and invest in transmission from settlement to settlement instead to the turbines

nicman24 ,

......

nicman24 ,

how did they got there is my point. to build anything there are emissions.

nicman24 ,

nicman24 ,

Steam Deck Enables Man to Not Play Hundreds of Games On the Bed

Is it possible to make audio from both channels come out of the "front left" on pulse audio?

I hope it’s fine to ask this here, I’m using endeavor os with KDE and got some little speakers for my pc, they however only seem to play sound from the “front left” channel, is there a way to make pulse audio send all audio on it? Like, mono mode? I couldn’t find anything that does that…...

nicman24 ,

either install an old version of pulseeffects or update to pipewire and set a mono filter

HDD or SSD?

Hello, everybody. I’ve been looking for a new storage solution. I know, that HDDs are reliable and SSDs are for fast access, but I’ve been an HDD user ever since. I have an SSD, but I only have the OS on it. Likewise, I want to do some basic File operations, as writing documents or copy files. It would also be great if I...

What is your unbiased opinion on Manjaro?

I am a Linux noobie and have only used Mint for around six months now. While I have definitely learned a lot, I don’t have the time to always be doing crazy power user stuff and just want something that works out of the box. While I love Mint, I want to try out other decently easy to use distros as well, specifically not based...

nicman24 ,

it would be better as an arch installer and a couple of extra packages - not completely different repos

Why if we see fork, snap always the problem : Canonical LXD forked... (news.ycombinator.com)

“Canonical only having snap releases was harmful to adoption. I liked using lxd, but uninstalled snapd (forgetting lxd used it), and my vms obviously stopped. Snap wouldn’t reinstall properly (various inscrutable errors), so I moved it all over to libvirt. I’d still be happily using lxd if it weren’t for Canonical’s...

nicman24 ,

yeah had same issues and moved to libvirtd and virtiofsd

How is pirating software a thing?

I understand that sharing video, photos, documents etc. is relatively safe because the data is not executed in the processor as instructions. How come people are willing to download and install pirated software though? How can one be confident that it does not contain malicious addons? Are people just don’t know the risks? Or...

nicman24 ,

How do you deal with the logs on your servers?

I’m pretty new to selfhosting, but one thing that I know to take seriously is log collection. Since there are a lot of different type of logs (kernel log, application logs, etc) and logs come in many different formats (binary, json, strings) - it’s no easy task to collect them centrally and look through them whenever...

AMD unveils its first laptop processor with 3D V-Cache (www.engadget.com)

AMD claims that the new Ryzen 9 7945X3D with a whopping 144MB cache is the fastest mobile gaming processor on the planet, and that it’s more than 15 percent faster than the Ryzen 9 7945HX on average. It has 16 cores, 32 threads, up to 5.4 Ghz boost speeds and 55W+ TDP. The CPU is built on the Zen 4 architecture.

nicman24 ,

factorio MFs' wallets sweating right now

nicman24 ,

there is an open source btrfs kernel driver for it and a userspace one for ext4

nicman24 ,

so.. you do do that..

nicman24 ,

can you boot from that ?

nicman24 ,

the package manager will have it built in with a simple hook. works great with unattended upgrades.

nicman24 ,

No certification and no support. Critical bug will be fixed faster in RHEL than Debian when come to Enterprise, very clear structure and powerful consultancy.

that is just corp talk for "it is not my problem"

I dont know ubuntu server, which i mostly use because of livepatch, with unattended upgrades seem to fare better than the rhel deploys that i have done - and the customer never updated. Granted the last is not enterprise but Uni bioinfo servers but still.

nicman24 ,

i find both rhel and debian tooling very outdated to be honest.
