mesamunefire , to fediverse in Surfacing Content from Smaller Communities on Lemmy

Reddit was like this when it started. I was there when Dig was a competitor. It took a decade of constant posts by people who really loved their communities to really take off. And reddit, when it started, didnt have subreddits, it was closer to hackernews.

Not saying your arguments are wrong per-say. But it will take some time to get started. The good news is federation means different instances will come and go but the protocol means we dont need to stay on any one kind of server. Kinda like email. I use mastodon to talk with peertube creators and use lemmy to talk to other lemmy instances all the time.

multireddits

I think you are spot on here. We need this kind of functionality in order to keep up with instances. For example, lemmy.world/technology and lemmy.ml/technology, etc… could all bu there own multicommunities. Something like /mc/technologies or something saved on a per user perspective. It would transform lemmy overnight I think. multicommunities would make those niche topics have a great deal more action.

Mastodon has been great.

mesamunefire , to technology in Microsoft's draconian Windows 11 restrictions will send an estimated 240 million PCs to the landfill when Windows 10 hits end of life in 2025

I’ve thrown older games at proton and wine and have made them work. Meantime the same game will work on Windows 10 with heavy modifications and does not work in 11.

Also at work, we are dealing with a legacy app that runs… everything? Or at least just about. It works in Windows 10 but has some bugs in 11. I’m tempted to see if wine can fix the issue lol.

Wine + proton/valve has made it very easy to run most anything windows related nowadays. I would expect this to help make Linux gain market share.

I’m still on the fence if gaining market share is a good thing ultimately, but I’m hoping to see it play out.

Fair enough.

Thats so great. I am really enjoying the new lemmy features lately. And communities of course.

Since your an admin, let me know if this community is the wrong place to put this? I didnt know where else. Lemmy seems to be nicer, so I was thinking the up/down votes would be the measure…

mesamunefire , to technology in Linux market share passes 4% for first time

The new arch continues to mess up brew, which is by far what people use for development on the platform. In addition, docker and other custom tools are paid on Mac but free on Linux. With companies tightening their belts, Linux is starting to make financial sense.

Does anyone know if updating will remove the emulators if they are already installed on the machine?

mesamunefire , to technology in Facebook and Instagram are currently down.

Maybe, I would expect redundancy. But ultimately I have no clue. I just remember the last time AWS went down. It seemed that a majority of the sites that I used daily were down all in one go.

mesamunefire , to technology in Facebook and Instagram are currently down.

downdetector

Looks like it may have been AWS or something. All kinds of services were down a moment ago. Guess thats what happends when everything is on major cloud services.

mesamunefire , to games in Temtem will stop (most) development later this year, monetization will be removed at a later date.

It would be wild if they open sourced it. Hell I would throw money their way if they did that. Theres a good game underneath all the MMO aspects they have been trying to push. Your right, they really need a way to self host it. One of the ways Coromon (does not need MMO) and Palworld (you can do just about anything) are better options in my opinion.

I wouldn’t put anything on GH at this point, not with lawsuits going around.

A good chair is worth a lot of money. A good back can help you for a lifetime.
