@shiri @ScruffyDux I'm not a healthcare professional and I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do, but I can't agree with that last point. Ultra-processed food plus vitamin pills is not a healthy diet.

UPF is adversarial: it has ingredients to make you crave it, but doesn't deliver the nutrients it promises. So you won't get protein or fibre, for example.

Then there's all the salt, sugar, fat and weird industrial chemicals it contains, none of which does you any favours.

@ratcatcher

Hardly. Sausages and bacon are considered processed foods, and are generally accepted as carcinogens. For multiple reasons, I avoid them, even though I enjoy them.

@shiri

No, it's not "chemophobia". It makes no sense to be scared of chemicals. We're made of chemicals.

But ask yourself who chose the ingredients in UPF and why they're there. Is it to make you strong and healthy, or is it to make you binge on foods that are cheap to produce, taste irresistible, but contain too much salt, sugar and fat? What are the food manufacturers actually motivated to do?

That's why I say UPF is adversarial.

No, because I only discovered yesterday evening that I might be autistic! 😄

I discussed it today with Mrs Wife, who was supportive (as always) and only mildly surprised. I don't plan to mention it at work for fear of discrimination.

Yes, that's right: NT = neurotypical -- no autism, ADHD or other forms of neurodivergence. Sorry for being unclear.

How do my comrades handle bullies in the wild and online?

How do you take care of yourself after being bullied?

Online: block early, block often.

In the wild: there are a handful of people I've simply refused to work with. In one case, I changed jobs to get away from an abusive boss; in another, it was a contributing factor. I understand that I'm privileged and not everyone can do this.

How do I take care of myself after being bullied? Badly, with rumination and pent-up anger. Whatever you see me do, do something different.

I'm . The sound of the train blowing its horn as it passes my house makes me cover my ears in pain. But the throbbing bass of the engine that causes a deep pressure in my chest from the vibration makes me feel happy.

When I was a kid, I used to crank up the bass of my parents' stereo and sit directly against the woofer to feel that pressure. They would always yell at me to turn it down. I've always loved that feeling.

I consider myself NT. I can detect my heartbeat in my eyes, my hands, my forehead and my belly. As you say, I normally filter it out.

(I'm a bit of a mutant: I have a strong pulse in the crook between thumb and forefinger on each hand. For decades, I wondered why nurses checked patients' pulses on their wrists when the one in the hands is so much stronger. Apparently no one else has it -- that's why!)

Heh! 😄 What makes you say that?

I'm a software engineer, so it's true that I'm not quite like other people. 😆

Are you able to form vivid images in your mind? How would you rate their vividness from 1 to 10? 🧠

Same. The one I'm imagining now is a granny Smith. I can imagine its smell, the green waxiness of the skin, the stalk between my thumb and forefinger, the sound as I bite into the apple, the slightly tart sweetness of the flesh, and the juice running into my mouth. But none of these sensations is anything like as vivid as actually seeing and eating an apple.

Now see what you've done. I want an apple.
