It occurs to me that, since the demise of Twitter and the half-hearted move to Mastodon, most of my communication on social media is only with people I know. My brain is currently actively calculating if this is a good or a bad thing.

I do miss old Science Twitter, however. Is that still a thing here or elsewhere in another form? Is everyone partying without me? Leads welcomed. #Science #SciComm

@stefandumont @tillgrallert @Mareike2405 @schwarze0fm @histodons Bluesky hat das mit der Aussicht auf Dezentralisierung klug gemacht. Protokoll schon jetzt offen und irgendwann kann dann jede*r eine eigene Instanz aufmachen. Aber jetzt wirkt es einfacher als das Fediverse. Da ignorieren die Menschen gerne den libertären Grundgedanken.

Vom Datenzugriff ist Bluesky noch offener als Twitter und damit praktisch zum Datensammeln.

Venice to start charging visitors entry fee next year (Reuters).

"Venice plans to experiment with an admission fee of 5 euros($5.35) for day trippers next year to try to manage the flow of tourists drawn to its historic canals, the city council said on Tuesday.

The fee will be applied on a trial basis on 30 days next year, focusing mainly on spring bank holidays and summer weekends when tourism numbers are at their peak. All visitors over the age of 14 will have to pay it.

The aim was to find "a new balance between the rights of those who live, study or work in Venice and those who visit the city," Venice tourism councillor Simone Venturini said."

The new one will only apply to people going there for a single day (https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/venice-entry-fee-tourists/index.html).

It may nudge some people to stay in Venice instead of somewhere close.
