Also also barkeep: Remembers they froze some of their piss earlier and lost track of it.

loaExMachina OP ,

Thank you ! However, now I’m getting a “bogus number of reserved sectors” error. A problem with the partition I made I guess…

loaExMachina OP ,

Thank you again. I got this when I try to run it. screen picture

I tried once with only the esp partition and once with the who’e device, but same result. It’s also the same without the -r option. I tried using e2fsk as suggested by the output, but it also doesn’t work (without option or with -b it just displays the help page, with the -c option and either number it says “no such file or directory” and it won’t accept a non-numeric argument).

If at this point you are tired of helping me, I completely understand; and I still have the option of reinstalling (the home is on its own partition and I’ve got a backup anyway, so I wouldn’t lose too much). Regardless, I am grateful for the help you’ve provided so far!

loaExMachina OP ,

I tried that. But yeah, seems like the partition was damaged. The tools I used were gdisk to convert my partition table from mbr to gpt and parted to make this partition in particular. But I think I did the first part wrong. Regardless, at this point I just assumed the whole thing was corrupted and I did a clean reinstall. Thank you for answering tho!

loaExMachina OP , (edited )

Guilty as charged! Thank you, I already did the reinstall. Funny thing is, I followed a shady tutorial for the conversion to gpt. One so suspicious that I probably should 've seen trouble coming- and I did to some extent, enough to make me backup important file before but not enough to fully dissuade me since I hadn’t found anything else nearly as simple. Here is the sustorial . Why so sus ? It’s made by a company that sells a recovery software, which they promote at the end of the article “in case things go wrong”. Such blatant crooks, I feel so dumb for falling for it ! I’ve learnt my lesson now. No more corpo website, only arch wiki and well moderated user communities and forums.

AMD GPUs are cursed for me

Each time I try AMD graphics, something is fucked for me. Back with fglrx, fglrx just sucked, so I used Nvidia. Then I had an AMD right around when they finally had opensource drivers, but it was still buggy as hell. So I went with Nvidia again (first a GTX 790, then a GTX 1060). In the meantime I had a new work notebook where I...

Using amd GX 6600… Mostly going fine, tho I haven’t tried any big heavy games. One thing tho… Everytime I turn on my computer, no display. I reboot it and then ot works fine, but ot never does the first time. One path I’ll investigate is the monitor: my monitors are both older and use DVI or VGA ports, so I have to use converters. I might try and get my hand on a more recent monitor to see if I still get the same problem. But if I do, I’m not even sure where to ask. I don’t even think it’s a linux problem, because I tried removing my drive with linux living one with windows and the problem remains. I also was using mint when the problem started and switched to Arch (btw) since and it doesn’t change a thing.

loaExMachina ,

Thank you ! It didn’t seem to work on it’s own, but I also noticed I wasn’t booting in EFI mode, so maybe if I just change my booting partition and combine it with your advice it’ll work…

loaExMachina ,

Aw, too bad :( Good luck to you as well, tho! I’ve bookmarked your comment, so I’ll be back to tell you if I find the solution, however long it takes!

Debatable, but the common consensus is that T-Rex had little to no feather. At the very least, the feathers couldn’t have covered all of the body because T-Rex skin imprints have been found without feathers, tho they’re not of all the skin, so there still may have been some feathered parts.

The idea that T-Rex had feathers didn’t come from nowhere tho : We have many evidence of feathered dinosaurs from many groups. The T-Rex is niched within the coelurosauria clade, which includes many dinosaurs that are mostly covered in feathers (and even modern birds). There’s even a close relative of T-Rex, Yutyrannus, with evidence of wide feather covering.

The reason why T-Rex didn’t have that much feathers is likely the same reason why elephants aren’t hairy : Big animals have less problem keeping heat, and may even at some point have problem evacuating excess heat (and yes, many dinosaurs were warm blooded). So as T-Rex got bigger, feathers became more of a hindrance.

loaExMachina ,

If they know that the gallinoansera clade had already emerged before the K-T extinction, they most likely also know about birds being dinosaurs. Specifying “non-avian” everytime is a pain and saying “K-T extinction” is not understood by all, no need to correct them for semantics when their wording gets the point across.

Bro, the left and right are originally French, not American, and they’re applied worldwide throughout various systems.

Long story short, in the original National Assembly in 1789, people with similar opinions ended up befriending each-other and sitting nearby during the session, so at one point you had all those who thought the revolution ought to go further (give more rights to more people, decrease the power of the king or outright depose him, etc…) sitting on the left, and all those who thought the revolution had gone to far already and ought to slow down sitting on the right.

Of course, by this metric, the very concept of a republic is far left, but the idea is that no matter what system you’re in, once it’s established enough, wanting to maintain the status quo is being a centrist, wanting change that puts more power in the hands of common people is left wing, and opposing such changes or wanting to undo them to “restore order”, often concentrating power in fewer hands, is right wing.

This “power” I speak of was at the beginning just political power, but through the 19th century, the focus shifted towards economic power. Therefore, since the late 19th century, a right wing policy a policy that favors the rich, and a left wing policy one that places restrictions on the rich and welfare policy for the poor to decrease inequality. This is why liberals were initially left wing, but neoliberalism is now mostly regarded as a wing ideology. These are policies that want a weaker state, but more rights/powers for rich individuals.

Daddy Croc: Unfortunately, I forgot.

Is this a staged joke? Is everyone here in some conspiracy to make me believe that either the world went mad or I did? Why is everyone calling every Marvel movie “peak” but the first Iron Man? Obviously, this was the best one.

How could they put on a hat with these little wings?

Could feral chicken take over the Amazon ?

Feral chicken are known in several places. They can be pretty successful and have been signaled as threats to ecosystems and crops in archipelagos like Hawaii and Bermuda. But I’ve thinking about Brasil: Given the sheer amount of chicken being bread there, the presence of the Amazon rainforest, which has a similar climate to...

loaExMachina OP , (edited )

Yeah, you might be right, but just to feed the debate I’ll take the defense of the chicken :

  • Their sheer number is a big factor : There can be hundreds of thousands in a single farm. Even if tens of thousands die on the first days, the next morning, the survivors will be less fat and more alert.
  • Red junglefowls are quite adept at living in a rainforest environment despite being nearly flightless and living close to many predators. Their strategy of being diurnal and hiding in the trees at night to avoid mostly nocturnal predators works pretty well and many Amazon predators are nocturnal as well. Mass farm chicken might be too fat at first, but it shouldn’t last too long and feral chicken are known to quickly recover their instincts and start brooding in trees.
  • Tinamus while very far from chicken classification-wise (and closer to ostriches), fill a very similar niche and have a similar lifestyle to jungle fowls, also being very poor flyers. This proves that this type of lifestyle can also work in the Amazon. And with tinamu populations being destabilized by deforestation, and chicken being more adapted to a variety of lifestyles, they could outcompete them and steal their niche.
  • Just for the scorpion part : Chicken rarely encounrer scorpions due to these being nocturnal. And when they do, it’s a pretty even match : The scorpions might poison them, but the feathers make it harder and the chicken might eat the scorpion first. Source
loaExMachina OP ,

Why do you think feral chickens are a concern?

No particular reason, chicken, ecological disasters and Brasil are just three things that have been popping in and out of my mind lately, it was only a matter of time until they combined.

The jaguar and anaconda population would increase for a few generations, but it would balance it out after a while

But would chicken still have a place in this new balance? I mean, tigers and pythons haven’t hunted the jungle fowls to extinction, nor have jaguars and anacondas done so to the unrelated, yet- similar tinamu…

loaExMachina OP ,

Yeah, it’s the jungle fowls I mentioned, from southern China, india and SEA; that’s why I think they might adapt well to the rainforest climate !

loaExMachina OP ,

Wow, I didn’t know about that… It’s even more troublesome for the hens if it keeps them from feeding of worms and bugs. If part of them survive long enough to breed, this won’t be a problem for the next generation… But this is already a big “if”.

loaExMachina ,

Soon we’ll be debating whether we call it systemd/linux or gnu/systemd.

A social network that was formed as a fork of lemmy, before lemmy had really entered the fediverse (tho they were planning to). Both Lemmy and Hexbear had communists among their founders, but the Hexbear devs found it more… Central to their objectives. When Lemmy federated, Hexbear didn’t. It planned to initially, but ended up being pretty satisfied of being a small, yet centralized social network, basically a communist Reddit. But the idea of joining the Fediverse appeared tempting once again with the boom that happened on Mastodon when the muskrat ate the bird, and to a greater extent when Reddit changed their API policy and lost a lot of the user’s trust, causing many redditors to move to Lemmy.

Hexbear devs then worked to essentially make it a Lemmy instance, but there were always disagreements about who to federate with. They first federated with Lemmygrad and Lemmy .ml. Lemmy .world quickly blocked them. They temporarily federated with sh .itjust .works, but this wasn’t well received on either side, so this was soon undone.

Ideology wise, pretty much everyone on Hexbear is some kind of communist. However, altho the “tankie”, pro-russia type is often seen, it’s not that homogeneous (there are even anarchist channels over there), arguably less than lemmygrad.

loaExMachina ,

Yeah, I didn’t mean to say that all tankies are pro current Russia, but just that there is a specific type of tankies that is, and these are often the annoying ones.
