Why is pornography (and sexualisation in general) so normalised?

It seems as though we are going backwards. We were doing so well in realising that all human beings are worthy individuals with emotional and intellectual depth, yet now so many of us don’t seem to see any problem with society encouraging many to reduce themselves to sexual objects. How is this rationalised?...

Sexuality being normalised isn't a bad thing but have you seen the state of porn lately? the front page of any given porn tube site is such that you cannot have a wank in peace without seeing abusive 'taboo' stuff mostly around incest and women being spat on and strangled. I can't believe that this is some agenda being pushed, they produce this content according to demand. This is to say nothing of the even darker stuff with revenge porn and trafficked teenagers etc. Porn can be fine if ethically produced, the current state of it is fucked up

To add to this, repeats with added sign language were (are?) often broadcast late at night because you were meant to set your video to record them to use as teaching materials. wasn't just sign language, a lot of the videos shown in school was stuff that had been taped from 3am

Just tried using only Firefox and uBO, that link and the main page load correctly first time and on refresh. Checked with default filters only and default plus annoyances and both were fine. Do you have any other ad blocker / content filter running at the same time?

When I was looking for a new phone I gave up and bought a usb c dac/amp from Fiio. Ended up buying a phone from Sony which does have a 3.5 port (and sd card too) but continue to use the dongle anyway as it sounds better. Use it 2-3 times a week

Hi, when I was a reddit faker (I haven’t relapsed, I’ve stayed out of reddit and never posted another fake story, im cured) I wondered if someone the mods would figure out the tens of accounts that came from my computer and noticed I was the writer of many fake stories....

if you want a 1:1 replacement for reddit like .world seems like it wants to be, cloning the interface (https://old.lemmy.world) and the subreddits (e.g. this one) then of course you you will find it lacking, it's the same thing but with only a fraction of the users. lemmy was not made for that, it was for disgruntled communists, you are on their turf

Just because some authorities implement it poorly doesn't mean it can't be effective. i just looked up new york rent control and it says

To qualify for rent control, a tenant must have been continuously living in an apartment since July 1, 1971, or be a qualifying family member who succeeded to such tenancy. When vacant, a rent-controlled unit becomes "rent stabilized", except in buildings with fewer than six units, where it is usually decontrolled. In units within single and two-family homes, the tenant must have resided in the unit continuously since March 31, 1952, to qualify for rent control. Once the unit becomes vacant, it is decontrolled.[4][5] Rent control does not generally apply to units built after 1947. wikipedia
