I am a professor working to understand and help early-stage founders succeed while avoiding or mitigating negative impacts of #entrepreneurship.

My research interests include wellbeing, emotion, creativity, impression management, and motives and I explore these mainly using computational and experimental methods (with #rstats). In a previous career, I built software and startups, and these experiences inform my research questions.

What motivates research fraud?

"There is pressure to publish as scientists [...] There are labs that are run by big egos who might say to a young researcher, “Why did your experiment fail? I will hire someone else who will make it work [...] The graduate students and the postdocs might be the ones photoshopping, but who is responsible for the atmosphere and the integrity of the lab? That’s the professor" - @ElisabethBik

They are all to blame. The PI for creating a toxic environment and failing to provide training and oversight and the ECRs for performing acts they know are improper.

👌 Academic and small business owner here. This couldn't be more on point.

Academics lack key business skills which I argue are required even within but are never taught with systemic management dysfunction as a result.

A tenured professor in liberal arts enrolled in our MBA program (just graduated!). She took our “launch your business” course with other student entrepreneurs. It was really cool and would love to see others around campus study business topics, esp. accounting, finance, OB, OD, etc.
