As someone who has been neutral on the whole TikTok sale/ban issue, this is the most damning thing I’ve seen.

And I am not defending Israel here but I wonder if TikTok’s promotion of anti-Israel content is part of why young people have been so visible in demonstrating against Israel.

I am SO sorry I had a source that published one moderately misleading article about GMOs 8 years ago. /s

People love linking that article to debunk my Truthout stuff. I’m not a huge supporter of them but their articles seem well written in my experience. One slightly inaccurate article years ago shouldn’t discredit anything they do.

I’ve read it in the past because inevitably someone links to it when I post a Truthout article. It claims they are “mixed” in their factual reporting but the only real evidence is one older article

Except there have been antisemitic incidents, namely verbal harassment. You can condemn antisemitism and condemn Israel. You can also protest Israel without spewing epithets at any Jew you come across.

Advantageous looting follows a lot of civil unrest. Not sure how that’s relevant here.

The fact is that people on campus were being harassed solely based on their background. That’s okay?

It’s not really insignificant when you’re looking at Columbia in particular. Maybe at other schools, but you just said you don’t like people bringing in irrelevant events to the discussion, so I won’t go there.

I see you completely ignored the part where Biden condemned Israel, since it doesn’t fit your narrative. Let me guess, you won’t support the democrats because “both parties are the same”.

Well, it’s not an investor, just a donor. Almost all universities and colleges are non-profits, so they do not have investors.

Sure, I get what you mean. But how do you stop that in any non-profit? It could be a local community organization that buys books for kids, then some rich guy donates a shit ton of specific books. You can’t stop people from donating, yknow?

Not saying I care about the votes. Just saying I don’t downvote people in a discussion (unless they are engaging in bad faith/trolling), since I noticed someone had downvoted your comment almost immediately.

That being said, even in some countries with excellent health care standards, organizations depend on outside donations. I imagine a similar thing happens in education but I can’t say for sure, since it isn’t my field.

Although, just for the sake of playing devil’s advocate, any system dependent on govt funding could be corrupted by the govt’s agenda, just like a donor could shape a nonprofit.

Seems a little high. Russian casualties are probably closer to 350k according to Western estimates.

I wonder how many died though (edit: Ukraine claims 180k but their casualty estimates are reportedly high, so probably less than 180k dead)

Lots of Russians died in WWII, yes (actually just realizing I don’t know anything about the breakdown of casualties or deaths in WWI). But if you count the number of casualties inflicted I imagine it would scale with losses experienced. Except for the USA, since we kinda cheated with the whole Hiroshima and Nagasaki thing
