Non-technical project managers are the worst lol

ipkpjersi ,

Of course they do, anything to make it worse lmao

ipkpjersi ,

It wouldn’t surprise me if that were the case, US doesn’t seem to be very consumer-friendly.

I’ve been using snaps for a few years now and while they still could use some improvements, the snaps I’m currently using seem to be fairly indistinguishable from deb-based packaging thanks to bug fixes they have done over the years. I think the idea of containerized applications is a good one, I think it actually can be safer. Performance is also fine for me with snap applications even like Firefox snap startup speed, although I’m using an R9 5900x and Gen 4 M2 NVMe SSD so maybe that’s why, or maybe they really have improved the snap software and it is just as fast now for the most part.

To me it sounds like it’s only for female contraceptives.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

To be fair, open-source developers get death threats too unfortunately.

ipkpjersi ,

It’s especially true if you do it for archival copies of content you’ve already purchased.

ipkpjersi ,

If someone pirated the music that I spent hours working on in the space I paid rent for, I am absolutely losing a sale that could really have helped me out and, with enough of them, even let us maybe do it full time.

Do you know that though? Is someone going to buy a song just to listen to it? There’s no guarantee that they would have bought it in the first place. Also, piracy literally can increase the exposure to your music and can lead to measurably increased sales. In fact, the YouTuber penguinz0 talked about how piracy actually helped sell more copies of his comic series: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJVCDD2lhH0

ipkpjersi ,

It’s sad that there were still construction workers and some cars still left on it, though.

Hopefully police told the people to evacuate their vehicles

ipkpjersi ,

But people do have dozens of jobs lined up at least, right?

ipkpjersi ,

I think you mean good post. Linux + Anime + Programming = GG.

ipkpjersi ,

Until there are laws and legislation that requires AI companies to open their data pipelines and make public all details about the data sources I don’t think much would happen.

I don’t expect those laws to ever happen. They don’t benefit large corporations so there’s no reason those laws would ever be prioritized or considered by lawmakers, sadly.

ipkpjersi ,

I’m still not awake after waking up recently so I saw it right away lol

ipkpjersi ,

Of course, but they didn’t lower the prices after. Fucking awful evil companies.

ipkpjersi ,

Nope since it’s an intended feature.

There is one uncleared level remaining in Super Mario Maker, with 18 days to go before the servers shut down (www.issmmbeatenyet.com)

UPDATE: Ahoyoo has confirmed that Trimming the Herbs was uploaded with TAS tools, meaning that The Last Dance was the final legitimate level all along! Congrats to kazeihinn on the Last First Clear! The journey continues in Super Mario Maker 2…...

ipkpjersi ,

Many years back, I manually dumped thousands of Mario Maker 1 levels and uploaded them to the Internet. It’s sad that the servers will be shutting down, and I knew this would happen, which is why I did it even though it took a long time manually downloading them one-by-one and then copying them off of my softmodded Wii U. Still though, it was worth it, knowing the game will live on to some extent even after the servers are shut down.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

That’s a good idea tbh. I should probably do that.

edit: It has been done, it is done uploading, it also includes levels I obtained elsewhere from other downloads, I won’t link it here tho.

ipkpjersi ,

Yep, this is why I have multiple Lemmy accounts. That’s even one of the biggest strengths of Lemmy.

ipkpjersi ,

Don’t forget private games, it’s a win-win because customers can buy games they don’t want to show to their friends and Valve get more money because they get more people buying those embarrassing awesome games.

ipkpjersi ,

They found him dead, after they killed him.

ipkpjersi ,

This is really stupid.

You’re basically telling people “just be rich” like it’s that simple.

People living paycheck-to-paycheck are not able to invest money because they don’t have excess income, they get to decide if they want to pay for rent or want to pay for food. Combine that with astonishing inflation rates and salary raises that don’t match cost of living increases or simply layoffs, and we have one fucked up situation.

This is a systemic problem. Billionaires shouldn’t exist. Billionaires are a societal problem.

edit: Oh, I see your comment isn’t directed at people living paycheck-to-paycheck, that’s a bit more reasonable then but I still think you’re missing the mark. It’s not as simple as “just increase your income” like you seem to be thinking it is.

ipkpjersi ,

Unless you’re getting huge raises every year you’re never going to get ahead, and if you’re getting nothing, you’re actually losing money.

Also if you’re getting raises below the cost of living increase (which most people are), you’re losing money. If you get laid off, which hundreds of thousands of tech workers are, you’re definitely losing money. It’s not a great time right now.

Modern hardware is wasted on modern devs. Can we send them back in time to learn how to optimize, and bring back the ones that knew how to properly utilize hardware?

I think a lot of the blame is erroneously placed on devs, or it’s used as a colloquialism. Anyone who has worked in a corporate environment as a developer knows that the developers are not the ones making the decisions. You really think that developers want to create a game that is bad, to have their name attached to something that is bad and to also know that they created something that is bad? No, developers want to make a good game, but time constraints and horrible management prioritizing the wrong things (mostly, microtransactions, monetizing the hell out of games, etc) results in bad games being created. Also, game development is more complex since games are more complex, hardware is more complex, and developers are expected to produce results in less time than ever before - it’s not exactly easy, either.

It’s an annoyance of mine and I’m sure you meant no harm by it, but as a developer (and as someone who has done game development on the side and knows a lot about the game development industry), it’s something that bothers me when people blame bad games solely on devs, and not on the management who made decisions which ended up with games in a bad state.

With that said, I agree with your sentiments about modern hardware not being able to take advantage of long-forgotten cool features like four-screen splitscreen, offline modes (mostly in online games), arcade modes, etc. I really wish these features were prioritized.

ipkpjersi ,

It depends who I’m talking to and where I live. Where I live, engineer is a protected title and requires certification/etc so that takes it out of the race. That leaves the other options. Generally I am a Web Developer to people my age or younger, to people older than me I am usually a Computer Programmer but also sometimes a Developer or Software Developer instead. Realistically, I am a Full Stack Website Developer.

Referring to my job doesn’t get any easier even as someone in tech.

I never thought I’d see the day when a respectable blue chip company like Boeing is publicly outed as ordering an assassination.

Why does this surprise you that a company, a large company, would order an assassination of someone? This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

ipkpjersi ,

Also, it’s worth pointing out that Gabe seems like a decent guy, and Tim Sweeney is a fucking prick. So I think that’s a pretty big difference right there too. Valve has earned respect, Epic has not.

ipkpjersi ,

The thing is, there’s hundreds, thousands, possibly millions of porn sites out there. There is no way any state is going to be able to block them all. Even if, by some miracle, they did manage to block them all - it won’t matter, people will still just use a VPN anyway.

ipkpjersi ,

I noticed it right away, does that mean I am the 10%?

ipkpjersi ,

I was today years old when I learned I have ADHD. Haha just kidding… unless?

ipkpjersi ,

Honestly, same here. Every time I notice a typo I have to point it out lol

ipkpjersi ,

I’d agree with you, especially since BBLs are super dangerous and could definitely explain that she had a fat embolism that travelled to her brain and caused a stroke, but I’d say it’s pretty unlikely. Also I’d say it’s even more unlikely that she would want a BBL as a member of the royal family with all eyes on her. Who knows what happened, it’s weird.

ipkpjersi ,

Wouldn’t that encourage them to still be cops (so they have extra protections), which we wouldn’t want them to be?

ipkpjersi ,

I’m afraid of the answer to this question tbh.

ipkpjersi ,

You forgot to mention it’s no different from Reddit with the horrible titles either.

ipkpjersi ,

Either that or she’s getting Smashed.

ipkpjersi ,

Why not share it and then let others comment it? Something like that should work.

ipkpjersi ,

Nice, thanks for sharing :)

This is great news. This is probably one of the companies that most desperately needed a union. Sure, I was laid off due to (bragged about) nepotism at my last dev job, and maybe a union would have helped, but according to my lawyer they didn’t break any laws laying me off. I’m just glad I was able to bounce back and land on my feet in a higher paying job.

Even considering all of that, I find it hard to think of a company more desperately needing of a union than Activision/Blizzard.

ipkpjersi ,

It’s probably against the rules.

Do what you want cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate.

ipkpjersi ,

As a full stack developer (more experienced in back end) working on a full stack task at work I can confirm, yes, this is very true lmao.

ipkpjersi ,

Irasshaimase~ er, welcome! This isn’t really that big of news imo, they were pretty much already a member kinda.

ipkpjersi ,

That’s why people usually say Half past 5, in my experience anyway.

ipkpjersi ,

That would probably do it. Now you’re kind of out of luck because without root you can’t hide that you unlocked your bootloader, so you’d have to either get root or not use the app or restore to stock locked bootloader.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

Are you living in an even crazier town knowing that he will probably become the next president? That’s horrifying to think about lol

edit: Downvoting me doesn’t mean it won’t happen, look at the current chances, he’s leading, unfortunately.

ipkpjersi ,

Is there a word for the opposite of enshitification?
