A half day strike is not enough, telling them ahead of time how long your strike will last is not how to do it.

ipkpjersi ,

So because they have high salaries they need to work in an office? I’m not seeing how that’s related.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

Vaccine fatigue is a real thing after all. Right now I’m honestly prioritizing getting my HPV vaccine, I know I could probably get the latest COVID vaccine whenever, but I’ll likely get it early next year.

I also work from home so that probably helps.

ipkpjersi ,

I don’t necessarily think someone wanting to protect themselves against a potentially deadly infection makes them an idiot. I don’t think it’s fair to shame people who want to protect themselves and others by wearing a mask. Having a limit per customer prevents panic buying fairly well, at least it did during the pandemic where I live.

I also don’t entirely fault people for not believing the CDC when they said that masks weren’t effective for the general public, they could have said that they were for medical professionals first who were more likely to be exposed to the virus. They weren’t being entirely upfront and I could see why people would feel burned about that. Personally I’m not huge on the way they framed it either.

I basically agree with you but I’m not huge on the way you’re wording it, whatever I’m probably in the wrong here but I still wanted to get my thoughts out there.

With that said, even as early as the middle of 2020 they recommended mask usage for the general public.

That post timing lol i.imgur.com/U1ystUX.png

It does seem like there should be filters, though. That seems like a pretty important feature.

Damn wtf, this sucks. He was awesome. He was the best character on Friends for sure.

ipkpjersi ,

Except for front-end technologies like JavaScript where there’s a new framework every week lol

ipkpjersi ,

Laws aren’t real, but the time you will end up spending in jail will sure feel real.

ipkpjersi ,

Of course, you need somewhere to sit after all.

ipkpjersi ,

Shit website but the damage it can do to modern society is real.

ipkpjersi ,

It’s on Firefox too.

ipkpjersi ,

I’m kind of confused, I’m getting the anti-adblock on Firefox too?

I have noticed less calls recently, awesome!

Use a seedbox IMO although with private trackers you’re generally pretty safe.

There’s no way lol

ipkpjersi ,

Guess they should have hired me one of the 3 times I applied to Mozilla, smh.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

Also, if they’re not getting it done remotely, there’s absolutely no guarantee they’re going to get it done in an office. Results matter, and good managers and good employers should realize that. If you get your work done and you do a good job, then that’s what matters. Of course, it’s not always that simple with office politics etc.

ipkpjersi , (edited )

Well to be fair you could probably block the words “Elon” and "Musk, wouldn’t that have caught this post?

Also how do you even block keywords? I’m still kinda new to Lemmy and I didn’t see an option for it unless I’m missing something.

ipkpjersi ,

Yeah, it’s supposed to be called return-to-office, but they call it return-to-work because they explicitly want to make it sound like it’s not work and that work isn’t happening remotely. Unfortunately to a lot of companies, especially ones run by old-style boomer (and older) management, it doesn’t matter how many complete corporation management platforms/complete administration websites or entire e-commerce platforms including multiple payment integrations you make, they still don’t see it as work even as all the extra money comes in. It’s pretty sad, honestly. You could be just as productive as in the office, if not likely far more productive, and they still won’t see it as work. It’s like they are all soulless husks or something, like there’s nothing inside. It’s so weird to me.

That’s why I enjoy working for a company that is over 5 hours away from where I live, because of how clear they made it that they specifically wanted me and that I was the right person for the job, and I proved it to them since they hired me too.

Generally, if you’re more experienced, you’re going to have a lot more opportunities, even remote ones, even in 2023 with all the tech layoffs happening (although it is harder with all the tech layoffs happening).

ipkpjersi ,

Of course they are, for example when targeting HTML elements you generally need to target text not vars or function names.

Yue then tweeted, “Don’t resign, let him fire you. You gain literally nothing out of resignation.” She also posted in a company Slack channel a message saying, “Don’t be fired. Seriously.”

Don’t resign or don’t be fired? I think she meant don’t resign.

ipkpjersi ,

It is very concerning, absolutely. With that said, it’s entirely possible localization/translation reviews work differently than code reviews.

ipkpjersi ,

Probably because companies don’t want to be held accountable.

I wonder if there’s a browser extension for replacing YouTube links on every website with piped links. If not, maybe I should write one.

I’m sure someone on either side will show up, and provide evidence… that evidence must exist, this must have been studied… right?

I dunno, maybe not.

edit: Neither side is providing any studies, but both sides are downvoting me. Very cool.

ipkpjersi ,

It would be hilarious if it were her, but it’s not lol

ipkpjersi ,

Just like the vaccines cause autism study, this won’t ever die out. People only ever remember the original.

ipkpjersi ,

Sounds like IT in a nutshell too unfortunately.

Unity CEO John Riccitiello is retiring, effective immediately (arstechnica.com)

John Riccitiello, CEO of Unity, the company whose 3D game engine had recently seen backlash from developers over proposed fee structures, will retire as CEO, president, and board chairman at the company, according to a press release issued late on a Monday afternoon, one many observe as a holiday.

ipkpjersi ,

Well how else could he supervise himself?

ipkpjersi ,

I mean, you have to check that it’s full somehow lol

ipkpjersi ,

I’d say it’s more than just practice. It requires a certain way of thinking too.

ipkpjersi ,

Nowadays they call it global state lol

ipkpjersi ,

I can see that but at the same time, there’s a difference between public servants doing their job in public versus just being an office worker working. I don’t think people are arguing that office workers need to be recorded by the public, as that would be quite weird. Although at the same time, people generally argue that police officers should be recorded, even by people in private, but I think that’s more due to the fact that they have authority that can be abused in ways that office workers simply aren’t able to.

ipkpjersi ,

I’m not sure that spying on office workers is a good idea, potentially even ones working remotely too. Not only would that not be illegal but ethically it feels wrong. I feel like people should be entitled to privacy when in their own home.

ipkpjersi ,

I’m not sure violating privacy rights is the way to go about restoring civil rights.

Body cams are because police have authority and are interacting with the public. Office workers working on information that is often likely PII, thus violating the privacy right of citizens too, and violating the privacy rights of office workers in the name of civil rights still doesn’t really sit right with me.

ipkpjersi ,

You are right, we won’t be able to agree on this.

There is no expectation of privacy in public.

I guess I disagree that an office, or someone’s home office is considered a public space.

State employees at any level have authority to abuse, it’s just a very large range.

State employees aren’t actively gunning people down in the streets, unless they are cops. I think it’s a very big difference. I think you need the accountability that a body cam provides on someone who can literally end lives in seconds.

ipkpjersi ,

That’s unfortunate close-minded teachers are allowed to teach subjects like these.

ipkpjersi ,

And they say that women are hornier than men, shaking my smh my head

ipkpjersi ,

This is technically possible, unfortunately. With an abnormal connection of tissue known as a colovesical fistula, it is possible.

ipkpjersi ,

7 full years of OS updates sounds pretty promising. Swap out the battery a few years in and this phone could last a while yet. Pretty impressive.

ipkpjersi ,

Oh they do? That’s great news, nice to see. I’ll have to keep that in mind when the Pixel 9 launches when I’m looking for a new phone.

ipkpjersi ,

It’s also one of the last things I’d recommend to someone migrating from Windows to Linux lol it has a fairly high learning curve

I believe no animations while playing games would be like, no DE animations while playing games.

You should check out CamelCamelCamel or Keepa, it has Amazon price history.

Yeah it’s kind of wild to me the number of people that think teachers having guns is a good idea, that way teachers can get into a shootout with students that go crazy. Absolutely insane.
