@autism101 @actuallyautistic Not just pets either, I've always been the "critter kid" in my family. I've handled spiders, wild birds, hung out with strays of all stripes.

Animals, aside from reptiles and horses, are much easier to read for me.

Just saw an interesting post by someone missing the simplicity of their childhood. I know that most people wear rose coloured glasses when they’re feeling nostalgic, but I wonder how many autistic people read such posts & think, “No way!”?

I had lots of fun & interesting times during my childhood & adolescence, but there was also so much complexity, confusion & distress. Learning to mask made it easier. I could at least pretend to understand what was going on & therefore attract less negative attention.

@Susan60 @actuallyautistic I've told people that if you offered me a time machine on the condition that I relive high school first, I wouldn't take the deal.

Earlier childhood would be an easier sell mostly because with 3 siblings and a good backyard, I was very thoroughly insulated against the bullshit that takes over your life as you age up.

I have more tools now but I still spend the majority of my time on other people's priorities and plans.
