I would imagine being open to federation is all that’s required for the EU.

Also, defederation doesn’t mean they can’t access federated data. They can even interact with it. It just doesn’t get synced back to the original instances.

I think it shows up so much on all because the algorithm for “hot” kind of sucks. I read earlier that subs that are more active get pushed to the top more than others. Not sure if that’s true, but that would explain why random subs seem to pop up on hot so frequently.

This makes sense… Allowing political videos invites people with agendas to abuse the ranking system to push that agenda. It could overshadow the promise of a community for cool videos on the internet.
